Did the Springfield Mil Spec (not GI) ever come with the small WW2 front sight and hogue wrap around grips??
thanks |

I don't think they ever came with the wrap around grips but I think they did come with the low profile GI sights years back. Now I'm not 100% on this but I have seen old Springfields that have the slanted slide cocking serrations like modern MilSpecs but have the GI sights. I have had a MilSpec for a little over a year now and I got to say, I wish I had the old GI sights instead of the 3 dots they give you...I'm better with the low profile sights.
Hope this helps. |
| My springfield 1911 said mil-spec on the box but had the rear slanted cocking serrations and the small GI sights on it. The box was green cardboard with a foam insert so it was an older model. It was also pre-ILS. When I bought it (used) it had the rubber houge grips on it. |

A regular Mil-Spec (not GI) will have slanted (and in my case, a little sharp) cocking serrations on it out of the box, on the rear of the slide only. My "regular" Mil-Spec came outta the box with a larger than GI front sight (white dot too), slanted rear cocking serrations, and plastic grips. My understanding is this how they all come. The only oddity on mine is that it came with a stainless one-piece barrel instead of the usual two-piece... I guess they ran outta the lower-cost barrels at the factory that day and swiped this barrel from the "premium" parts bin to meet production numbers |

If you have the Ser#, you can call springfield and they will tell you production date and any other details they have. I have seen a few examples pop up on gunbroker from time to time. IIRC the cross cannons will be behind the ejection port as opposed to in front of it like newer production |
