Picked up one this week. First day at the range today. 100 rds, no problems. I was surprised I was shooting as good as I was with the GI sights. Very happy with it. Worth every penny for a "WWII" shooter. A day at the range with that and my Garand makes me a little more proud and a little more reflective about what my uncles did in WWII. One was a Marine grunt in the Pacific, one was an infantryman in Europe, and one was UDT in the Pacific. Two thumbs up here for the GI 45 |
| Took my GI 45 out for the first time Sun . Put a total of 200 rounds of Mag-Tech 230s through it. Guess I'm gonna have to work on my trigger pull on this one. Haven't shot ANY autos in years. Did manage a few good groups, But seems like there is always 1 flyer in the group. Not a problem one with the gun, no FTF or FTE. I did change out the grips and put a Hogue grip on it[Thanks to srt205] and it seems to fill my hand a little better. As for the historical aspect, my Dad served in the Pacific during WWII also. Remember him having one in the mid 50s and used to go shooting with him often. Was a little too young to shoot it myself , but had a ball just chasing the brass. |
| My Springfield GI 1911 started out with a failure to extract every ten rounds, but now it seems as if the problem fixed itself. It's now very reliable. The only complaint I have is that I can't find a real GI spur hammer or a real GI style thumb safety. I kinda like the ILS because It does away with the little pin that holds the main spring in place. Does anybody know where to find real GI thumb safeties and hammers or replicas of them? |
| 8 of us in my unit bought SA GI models when we got back from the Gulf. The feedback from the guys is overwhelmingly in favor of this pistol. I took mine out and ran through 250+ rounds of milspec 230gr ball ammo and I had exactly one fail to extract which I blame on lack of lube and a tight slide during the first box of ammo. All mags are mil surplus. I fired double taps and rapid fire of whole mags and had no issues. Slow fire groups were to be expected from a service pistol at 3-4" at 50'. It's certainly not the ideal CCW weapon due to size but it's one that you want to have in arm's reach should you need the knock-down power. |
| I just put money down on a 1911 GI in O.D. I've been wanting one for a long time. I went to the gun shop to shoot a couple rounds through my Ruger p89 and next thing i know i'm filling out paper work. They had one parkerized and one O.D. I love the GI 1911's look and feel. I can't wait to pick it up and see how it shoots compared to my Sig p220. NIB I paid $437.00 for it. Is that the going price? |

I've got 700 rounds through my SA GI model PW9609L now. I have only have 2 FTF. I am very happry with the gun and at 50 ft it shoots where I aim. The gun is much more accurate than I am. Yesterday I ordered the PW9108L parked GI. The PW9609L I paid $437.00 + tax. The gun I just ordered I got for $395.00 + tax. I shopped around a little the 2nd time around. Zardoz I think after you get one you will want another. You might as well just get em both at the same time, maybe you can get a better price on two |
| I'm putting together a shadow box for my Wife's Grandfather who served in WWII, as thinking about mounting one of these in it (under, outside of the Glass sos it can be handled). Is it possible to have an OD finish Laser Engraved without ruining the finish? Anyone tried this? |
