TRP owners: Is the TRP worth the extra money over a loaded?
I just bought a stainless loaded from a friend for a good price and I also put a TRP on layaway, but I am thinking that the TRP may be redundant and offer nominal performance. Convince me otherwise. |
| I can't speak for everyone or anyone else - but both of those pistols are more accurate than I am. The TRP has some cool bells and whistles, but I carry mine everyday and all that concerns me is weight and accuracy at realistic ranges. I have used a TRP on the range many times. For the life of me I can't shoot a better group with the TRP than I can with the Loaded. |
| Yes. The TRP has much more attention to detail in fitting. It also has a better barrel. If I were to buy a lower end SA 1911 again it would be a MilSpec with thoughts to doing upgrades myself or sending it off for work. I was not impressed with the "Loaded" I had. |
| I went with the TRP because I knew that I absolutley wanted front strap checkering and a mag well. The checkering alone will run anywhere from $110 to $250, plus the cost of refinishing, if you want to add it later on. And figure another $100 if you want to add a mag well. And as stated, the TRP is generally fitted a bit better, and they have a better barrel and trigger. |

I have a loaded and based upon how it shoots I really have no interest in upgrading. I'm glad I made the selection that I did. Thats how I feel about my loaded. Almost 800 rounds of diff stuff through it with no issues yet. Shoots better then I do. I looked at the TRP and picked the loaded, glad I did. |

I've owned a SST Loaded and currently own a TRP. I think of the TRP as a "handpicked" with some extras (night sights, checkering, magwell, ambi safety, better grips.) They were both accurate guns. Both were reliable with ball (haven't tested the TRP with JHPs yet). The TRP is a better gun, whether it's worth the price difference to you is the question. You may be well off buying a Loaded and having it checkered if you like, or upgrading parts on it here or there. Eventually if you're like me, you'll have the same money in it as buying a TRP, but sometimes that's the fun of owning a 1911. |
I shoulda bought the TRP and been done with it. I bought a Loaded and then decided to upgrade the finish. That lead to one thing after another and now I've got more money into the Loaded than I would have into a TRP. By a couple hundred bucks![]() If you're happy with some extras, but aren't really serious about the utmost in quality, a Loaded is awesome for the price. If you want something higher quality, the TRP is an excellent choice. Once you get past the Loaded, you're going to get diminishing returns. The TRP is still a great pistol for everything that you get. |
