You need a new roll pin, SA will likely put one in the mail for you with a call. A good friend of mine recently found a full box of Brownells Roll pins at a yard sale and bought them for me. I'll bet I can just measure the one that's in there and find a replacement and tap it in, but curious what caused it to come out in the first place. I did send off an e-mail to springfield, but received an out of office reply.. Gene |
| Not that uncommon of a problem. It has been brought up frequently on XDtalk.com. The problems appears to mostly be present in those who dry fire thier guns alot, and it appears the roll pin just gets worn and gets thin. Springfield has been sending replacements out for free last I checked. Most people say the new pin is difficult to get in as its not worn like the old pin. Also many say to make sure the slot in the pin faces forward to help make it stronger. |

I'll give them in a call in the morning. Thanks guys. Gene |

Does anyone find it odd that a designer would utilize a roll pin as a high impact bearing part in a defensive firearm? If you don't know what I mean by this, detail-strip your slide. Or take a close look at the exploded diagram. There's a reason your roll pin is shrinking in diameter, roll pins can do that when they're peened with spring loaded plungers hundreds and thousands of times, unless they crack/shatter instead. |

Happened to mine as well. Give their CS line a call and you'll have a new crimped one in the mail within five minutes. 800-680-6866 Yep. They sent me one out, and I had it in a few days. Stuck it in the freezer for a couple hours and it hammered right in. Gene |

It is a 3mm x 16mm roll pin. Does the XD 9 Service use the same size? You can get metric steel or stainless pins at McMaster |

How about replacing it with a solid pin? im sure you could if you could find a pin that fit perfectly...i believe a roll pin is your best bet though as it forms better...looks like it was just a flaw in the installing of the pin or the pin itself...fist time i have heard of this happening |
