First –
I have read most of the posts in this Forum that pertain to the XD.

I just bought 2) XD 9mm 4” Service Model – blk on blk.

XD Questions:

Mags – Drilling into the links posted above, I found a site that claims you can use other manufactures magazines by cutting the D shaped mag release window in the front side of the mag. Has anybody ever done this and if so what mag did you use?

Mag release –
One thing I noticed immediately was the high amount of force needed to drop a mag in a tactical reload scenario. I put Super Lube inside where it rubs and it helped a little. Does this break in? Do I need to replace the mag release button / polish it? I don’t care about it being ambi.

Barrel finish –
The other thing I’m experiencing is a high amount of wear to the finish on the barrel where it rubs on the slide. I cleaned and lubed the gun but the amount of wear I’m seeing in working the action a couple of hundred times is more than I have on a Glock (hated the grip angle) with 2000+ rnds thru it. Is this normal? / Comments.

Well as for the mag release it gets easier over time, just needs to break in.

Normal for wear at top of barrel. Also- mag is stiff- not a chance of accidental mag drop. Just work it a little bit to help out. I have no issues with doing a tactical reload during IDPA with mine- shouldn't be an issue..

Just take it out, shoot, and enjoy......

Sorry missed one- reworking another manf. mag to get it to work in the xd- wouldn't recomend. The mag has everything to do with reliabilty- I would stick with the xd mags- or you could be opening yourself up to a lot of issues.....

my experience with my XD's has shown me one thing––these guns get better the more you shoot them.  The trigger smooths out, the mags drop easier, and the finish on the barrel hood wears so much you finally decide to do a polish job on the thing

I have a 9mm sub and my wife has a 9mm sub. What you described is totally normal. The mag release will break in over time and the barrel  finish wear is nomal. Just go out and shoot it, it shoots better over time. I am not sure about the mag question. We have 7 springfield mags between our 2 XD's I would stay with them. Ganger Mountain carries them.

1. Stick with factory mags. They're available for reasonable prices, and are sure to work well in your gun.

2. Mag release will get better with time. Takes a while to break in.

3. Wear on the barrel is normal. Nothing to worry about.
