Does anyone know (or has anyone tried) if you can take the 5" XD 9mm barrel and put it in the XD(M) 9mm gun?

The XD-M is a totally different beast. It has closer tolerances and a tighter fitting, match grade barrel. Contact Springfield for further clarification.

The the cut where the leg interfaces with the guide rod is wider, the ramp is wider, as well as the lower lug. Other than that they are the same.
The XDM match grade barrel fit is no where close to a real match grade fit barrel, but better than the average XD.
