Looking to purchase a XD-45 4" service.
1.I don't see an option for night sights on the Springfield site for the 45. I got a decent price for the pistol new local but, the gun shop says,"for $20.00 more you can get the same model with night sights? 2.How is the factory holster for range shooting, classes? I have been using the Fobus, non retention same style as the Springfield for my 1911 and have not had a problem. thoughts? EL |

If you can get night sights for $20 get them, even for $60 more.
The holster that comes with the accessories is useless. I left it in and the magazine holder in the plastic case. I use a level 2 Blackhawk Serpa and have a Crimson Trace Laser on it. Mine did not come with night sights but I had a new set for a Sig P220 laying around so I put them on it. |

Night sights are available, but if your dealer can get you one with night sights for $20 more than a standard XD-45 with normal sight...jump on it!!! That is a great deal.
Some companies are making SA Xd-45 specific night sight models, but the full-size Sigs (P220, P226, etc.) night sights will work 100%. The XD gear holster isn't worth a darn. I don't think I'd use it for a class, but for general range use...it is okay. The Blackhawk Serpa holsters are an excellent option and not that expensive. Fobus makes an XD-45 holster as well...just stay away from the paddle holsters as they don't hold up very well with any heavy use. |

Thank you all.
I have read that the Fobus as said, are not the best quality but, they are cheap and work on the range. As we don't have CCW in my numb skull state, that is not an issue. Up to the Holster section for the nightmare of trying to find the correct holster
Might make it easy and go back to the Blackhawk. |

Agree with what the other say. For 20 you cant go wrong. I have TFOs on my 4 XDs and they are great, but at 60 for the sights (dam good price I paid for them, usually 80-90 a piece) and the $30 smith fee, your deal is a steal even on top of the good price I found the TFOs for.
As for the holster. The XDgear holster can scratch up your slide a bit, I do not like it. For hunting/ camping I use the Serpa, for CCW I use the crossbreed supertuck with Jclips. It works on all 4 XDs including the XDm I have, but I only carry the 45 comp or the 40SC. My personal opnion about night sights. I do NOT like the plain night sights that just have the trintium tube for day shooting. They blend in to well making it hard to align for good sight picture. My fathers glock Trijicon sights have little white circles surrounding the tubes, but its still "hard" to acquire a target to me. The TFOs solved this perfectly, and I went with the yellow green combo. When I get home Ill post a photo of them for you if you like. |

I think they are the Trijicon 3 dot night sights. Hey,for $20.00 more,I'll take them. Definitely post the photos. It's always an option to replace them later |

Damn, dude,I just realized you have a few XD's.
Thanks for the photos. Are those Trijicons or Trueglow? Differentiating between color on your sights would help to acquire your target faster I would think. Is their light signature at night very bright? It does not look that way from the photo. I was wondering if the other guy could see the glow of the sights also. |
| I own 4 XDs because they are great guns. At night it is enough to make them out to be usfull once your eyes have adjusted to the darkness. When I show a few friends the sights, we go into the bathroom close the door and turn off the light, they say, I see nothing, then 20 seconds later after their eyes have adjusted to the darkness, they see them fine. If anyone is on the business end of them, they will not see a thing except for the muzzle flash, the front of the sights are solid metal. These are Truglow TFOs (trintium and fiber optic). |

If you buy a new XD and you're a lefty, give SAI a call. They will send you an XD paddle holster to replace the RH junkie unit that came in your box. That's what I use at the range.
For concealed carry, I use a Don Hume open top piece. Conceals well, carries well, nice crafstmanship. |
