After being without a M1911A1 for six years, I traded my S&W 686 in on a new Mil-Spec yesterday (this will be the 7th M1911 I've owned...). The fit and finish is outstanding but the thumb safety is extremely stiff.

I'll give it a workout at the range next weekend.

Keep this one if you can. My SA Mil-spec was my second gun and even after the parts I put on it its still been 100% with any ammo.

My biggest concern is regarding feeding but I'll take your word about it. It sure feels nice in my hand...

I figure in using about 300 rounds for break in including some Wolf ammo.

BTW - I think the price was a bit high for the gun...how does $575 sound?

Ok, but if the Wolf jams in it don't fret, its most likely the ammo. I've never liked steel case in handguns unless its got a chrome lined chamber and bore like my CZ-82. Also I personally think the stock mag that came with it was garbage, I never even used it and bought 8rd Wilson mags before I even shot it.

Other than that if it jams with the Wolf ammo, or mabey some other ammo in the stock magazine check those 2 out first. And yes nothing I own handgun wise feels better in the hand than my SA 1911.

Model PB9108LP

It came dressed with a very nice set of Cocobolo SAI grips, stainless steel barrel, a spare set of plastic grips, holster, two mags and a cleaning kit in a huge blue pastic case. The sights are really decent...

How much should it have cost?

I bought one at a show last November for $425 cash, I hate to say it dude, but it appears as though you might have been had.

If you paid $425 for this model (06 package) then how much was the WWII version selling for? It has to be around $325 - $350.

Shit...sorry.  I shall elaborate and read a little more closely next time.  I glossed over the SS barrel and extra grips.  I have the base WWII version.  The grips may not be Cocobolo, but they are definitely wood, it came with a holster and I'm pretty sure there was a cleaning kit as well.  A coupon with the purchase had some decent deals from SA, so I got a few mags, some extra doodads for cleaning as well as another range bag.  All told, with the extras, it still wasn't $575, but no SS barrel.  Hope that clarifies things a little.  Sorry for the confusion.

Range Report:

I took it out to the range today for what I thought would be a break in period with a few problems relating to functioning.

Not one hiccup at all with this pistol! I started off with 50 rounds of American Eagle 230 gr ball and then with 150 rounds of Wolf PolyCoat 230 gr. ball. The factory mags are lousy but all went well.

Buy with confidence.

I have the same gun and it came in the same pkg with 2 mags shitty holster cleaning stuff and case. My mil-spec has been perfict, no probs at all. however my mags dont like to feed wolf. I think its the steel cases, the bullets seem to get stuck in the feed lips on the mag. I have NEVER had a problem shooting any brass or anything else, just Wolf. I dont think the steel is as smooth as brass and it binds up in the mags. And even when it comes to wolf it only ftf every 50 rnds or so. still works for cheap plinking with the added benifit of clearing jams

ETA. I think i payed about $615 for mine Worth every penny to me

No problem...from what I can determine, $575 is the going price around here.

My 8 round blackened SS Wilson mags arrived yesterday.

Just back from the range - I sent another 200 rounds into the steel plates.

Funny thing though...my hit percential is much higher with this pistol than wih my Glock 21

Nothing funny about that at all, IMO. The 1911 has been proven for almost 100 years now that it is THE best engineered & designed handgun of all time. Given the SA trigger versus the mushy Glock trigger, this is no surprise at all, IMO.

I think it's just the disproportionate size of the pistol itself as I do just fine with my G17. It was kind a eye opener...

Great on the Mil-Spec.  I have a GI .45 and a Stainless Steel Mil-Spec.  The sights on the Mil-Spec are quite a bit easier to use for sure, especially at my age.  The only thing I think I will have done to it is to have the trigger lightened up a bit to abt. 4.5 lbs. It is a very nice shootiung pistol.

I found a range where I could rent and just for shits and giggles tried a 17 and a 21.  The first shot with the 17 had me wondering when the damn thing was going to go off, definitely different from ANY SA that I've ever shot.  Same song and story for a 21.  Not saying they're bad, just not for me.  I then went back to the tried and true with a rented Kimber and voila!  Back in the middle with all of my groups.  I grew up on SA autos and will probably stick with them, they just work for me.  For the Glock lovers, if they work, stick with them--to each their own.

I LOVE my 1911 Mil-Spec  It feels so good and the rounds hit where I want them to every time.
