I recently acquired a stainless xd9. I bought it used but very lightly used with no wear marks anywhere on it. I love the feel and like the trigger. It feels like it has a lighter pull than my Glock and BHP but the reset is kinda long. The problem - I was shooting some of my reloads at the range and I began having FTF probs. It wasnt going all the way into battery. In checking things out, I found that the rounds were binding in the chamber and not seating fully. I shot some factory loads and it ran fine. Now I have been reloading for a long time, over 15 years, and have never had any probs with any of my 9mm dies or ammo. The thing is, the same 9mm ammo that was giving me probs in the XD feeds and runs flawlessly in my Glock, BHP, and S&W 3953. When I got home I removed the barrels from the XD and the HP and hand checked several hundred rounds. About 40% wouldnt chamber in the XD barrel but all would chamber in the HP. So then I checked my Glock 26 and 100% chambered in it also. Does Springfield make the XD9 with a tighter chamber than these other pistols, or did I possibly get an out of spec chamber? It did run 100% with factory ammo so I dont get it??? |
Does your XD have more chamber support than the other nines do? I will have to look at my G19 and my XD this weekend and check it out. I wonder if the ramp is a bit steeper or something. I would also measure the leangth and Dia of the reloads vs the factory ammo that was working. It could have a tighter chamber though. |

It is not unusual at all for certain guns to not like certain ammo. Obviously the XD doesn't like your reloads. Since it runs fine on factory ammo I doubt your chamber is out of spec. On my first XD you could tell what brand of ammo you were using by the failure to extract rate. You would consistently get a 2% FTE rate with WWB ammo, 8% FTE rate with S&B, and 0% FTE rate with Federal American Eagle ammo. Magtech ammo runs fine in every pistol I have owned EXCEPT for my CZ's. It will consistently have failures to feed when I run Magtech. I had to drop out of the IDPA Nationals last year because I wasn't smart enough to take Federal ammo with me. |
