I haven't owned a 1911 in over 20 years.  My old Colt didn't like anything but fmj ball.

They've come a long way in 20 years with ammo.

I'll be picking up a Springfield Armory Loaded OD 1911 sometime this week.   What ammo can I shoot reliably in it.  I want it mainly for self defense and occasionally shooting at cans.

None of my SA's had a problem with anything I fed them. My od green one was just a great gun. Kinda miss it. Might have to pick up a new one here one day soon.

I'm partial to 230gr. JHP's and prefer the WW SXT when I can find them, but Speer, Federal and WW all make excellent designs and quality, and anything you need to shoot is probably not going to be able to tell much difference...and no, I do not care for or use Remington ammo due to long standing QC issues, although it's fine for range fodder.

230gr Pro load in both regular and +P is a great round I have come to love. Ditto the 200gr +P. Same load in Speer Gold Dots are good. Pro Load uses Gold Dot bullets.
