I've been eyeing the Springfield TRP model for some time now.  From what I can tell, this seems to be a great gun.  However, I would like some input from any of you who may own this gun or have any experience with it.  I want any stories you have, good, bad or ugly.  I want to get a good idea what opinions are about this pistol before I drop a large pile of cash for it.

So, here's to you guys And thanks for helping out.

I have no experience with the TRPs, but they are in Les Baer/ Ed Brown / Bill Wilson territory, and they are gonna have to be really DAMN nice as well as trouble free for me to prefer a TRP over one of these other guns. I also suspect that the resale value, used, percentage-wise is considerably lower for them than the others. I would look at the Baer Thunder Ranch if I were willing to drop this much $$$. JMO

Nice gun.  Unfortunately, its a $1600 with a $2000 price tag IMHO.

Yeah, if you're going to drop that much cash, get a Wilson or a Les Baer.  It would be more worth it to buy a basic model Springfield and have a guy like Ted Yost or Novack build it up to your preferences and specifications than to get the TRP.  If you want to spend more, you could buy a Larry Vickers 1911 built to your tastes as well.  At some point (over $1000), it is just more worth it to go to a real smith (or gun boutiques, as I like to refer to semi-custom joints like Wilson or Baer) than to buy a gun made by the factory's "custom shop".

I've a TRP its great pistol i also have a Baer I've been only shooting the TRP. I paid like $1200. for it I've never had any problems at all. Its just as accurate as the baer but doesn't have the tight slide to frame fit of the baer. But the armor coat is great it wears great. I would say buy one you won't be disapointed

Thanks for all the great responses guys.  I don't have the money for it quite yet, so I'll have to wait a while.  I'm just trying to get an idea of what I should get when I do have the cash.  Keep the replies coming.

Actually from what I have seen, a new TRP can be had for only slightly more than a grand (you may be thinking of the TRP PRO)

There are 2 different versions of the TRP. There is the TRP-Pro which is the exact same pistol that the FBI gets and then there is standard TRP. The Pro model is a completly custom pistol and it beat out all the other models listed above for the FBI contract. Ive seen them on Gunbroker and Guns America for $1800-$1900. The standard TRP is basicly a loaded model with some custom work done to it.It goes for $1000-$1100 on the gun boards.

What I said above, I was thinking about the Pro model.  For a grand, I guess the TRP is decent, but I am not sure what is done to it exactly.  Does anyone know exactly how the loaded models and the standard TRP differ?
