My friend has one of the Springfield 1911A1 autos.

He showed me how he could disassemble the entire pistol.....except he could not get the barrel to remove from the slide?

The barrel bushing is removed. Recoil spring and plug are removed.

Seems like it would just slide out like my Colts do. However, it comes about 75% of the way out...then hangs up on something..

Is this a known problem with this model?

What do you suggest??

Thank you!

Are you pulling it out the front?

Hanging up on the barrel link.  Swing it all the way to the muzzle and try again.

that sounds about like the only way it would hang...

Ditto,
You have to cam the barrel link back to get the guide rod out, and he is just not swinging the barrel link back foward to allow the barrel to slide out the front of the slide.

We've tried it with the barrel linkage hole flipped forward and backward. Either way, the barrel won't slide out the front.

Seems like there is something like a couple "burrs" on the ceiling of the slide itself, opposite of where the recoil spring guide would normally sit, that are hitting the specific part of the barrel assembly that is normally visable thru the ejection port. I know that's a mouthfull of description......but if anyone knows what I'm talking about, I know you guys will....

If it went together, it WILL come apart.

Again, ditto.

Sounds like maybe the front sight post was staked on, and not ground down flush with the roof of the slide.

Since the barrel went in, it will come out.  With the link against the barrel (downward), grab the barrel in one hand, the slide in the other, and with a good running tug between the two, the barrel will pop out.

Seems like if the bushing would go in & come out, the barrel would too, long stake or not???????
