I've never been a 1911 guy but today I put $$$ down on a Springfield Ultra Compact Stainless Steel Loaded model. I have seen, held and shot many 1911's and never really liked them much. It was the weardest thing though the little Ultra Compact caught my eye and I asked the gun shop owner to hold it and I instantly fell in love. It felt so good in my hand and was nice and thin and small but had a nice heft to it kind of like a nice wrist watch has to it. I don't know why this 1911 got me but it just did! Can't wait to shoot it as soon as I pay it off. Let's hope it runs good right out of the box! |

Too funny, I hit the tanner show this sat and went looking for the same type of pistol for another carry piece (I blame Walt), and happen to run across a used Micro compact (GI version) with Night sights which found it way home with me. Now the fun part is going to build it (real reason that I was looking for a used pistol instead of a new one), Nowlin Pro Commander hammer/sear/disconnector. Long trigger with over travel and take up (lighten style) S/A .220 High grip beaver tail safety with bump, Allen wrench grip screws, S/A slim flat mag well Navidrex S/A long DD slim grips (ctd), Couple of Wilson follower/spring kits to rebuild the mags that came with it. And with any luck, all parts installed and the whole thing coated in flat black Duracoat by next weekend. As for the total price of everything including the pistol when it's all said and done that I had to shell out for this project, under $500 for the pistol and all the parts. To sum it up, your going to love the compact pistol since it so easy to wear IWB, but is a handful with 230 +p Gold Dot ammo (even with the two stage recoil reducing system), so take your time and get used to it before working up to the hot loads. P.S. Welcome to the 1911 dark side!!!!!!! |
So does this one run 100%? |
You’re kidding, Right????? Don't confuse my own version of a low budget pistol, with the amount of man-hours in it. The used pistol and parts where under $500, but if I was to add in my own time, The price tag for the pistol would be well over a $1300 (read this pistol got the same attention that I put into building one of my own full blown race guns). This pistol will hand empty mags apun mags of empty cases (read walking the side down by hand), and you would have to have hand strenght a 3 year old girl or less, to limp wrist it enough for it to even think about maybe having a slow feed, must less a jam. Trust me, the outside may not look special, but since this is going to be one of the carry pieces that I will truth my life on, the parts (including the mags) have been hand fitted, polished, and tuned to perfection. |
