Well, just shot my newest piece that I got yesterday. Quite impressed. Ran thru Fed., Win., Rem 230 gr JHP's with perfect reliability, excellent accuracy, Fiocchi 230 ball with perfect reliability and good enough accuracy---didn't like Blazer 200 gr. JHP, it jammed up on the first round, pushing the bullet BIG TIME back into the casing---talk about a compressed load! But doesn't matter about that load---its had problems in several pistols, so I won't hold it against the XD.
Definately not a CCW piece, but good for everything else.

why not for CCW?  too big?

Big time--too big
The regular XD 45 is a stretch for CCW, but the Tactical is just impossible "for me". And, in its defense, i'm sure they never  intended it  for CCW.
If your a 350# guy, living in northern Minnesota, where heavy clothing is normal--you might pull it off. But where i'm at, our winter apparral is like alot of the countries summer apparral. So you can imagine what our summer dress is like---it just ain't happening here. It will make a fine 'open carry' field gun.

I just got my XD45 Tactical also.  Only got a chance to put around 50 round through it, but I like the way it shoots better than my XD40 Service.  I've only put WWB through it, but I have some UMC I am going to try also.  Mine is the BI-Tone.

I've had problems with 230-gr. Blazer Brass in my 4" XD-45ACP too.  I haven't had the chance to try any other ammo as I still have 50 or so rounds of Blazer.  I was hoping my problems were just due to the ammo.  Phew.

I agree, even the 4" pistol is a bit too big for CCW.  I do like the subcompact, though.

The Blazer I was using is the aluminum cased stuff-----what hurts it is the short over all length and BIG hollowpoint profile---had problems in several 1911's and a Ruger with it. Got it a few years back from a store that mistakenly was selling it at Blazer ball price----bought 4 or 5 hundred rounds, glad its almost gone.

I went out with mine again, and did some serious benching......loves WWB 230 JHP, which is good, because it is the cheapest price "carry load" (at least what I would carry) out there, in my opinion.

I just put one of these on layaway at my local Gander Mountain.  I should be picking it up in about 30 days.  I can't friggin' wait!!  BTW, what did you guys pay for yours?  I am just curious what the average asking price is.

Thanks

My 4" XD45 was I think about $570 out the door at Gander Mtn.  It was a bit expensive for an XD, but I wanted the gun!

$543 out the door for the Tactical ($512 plus tax)---He also had the 4" at $499 plus tax

I haven't tried Blazer in my 4" XD45. Looks now like I probably won't. But I have shot about six types of ball and HP ammo in it and it has functioned flawlessly so far on all of them. It even handles the shorter and more blunt nosed HP rounds that my Taurus PT745 won't feed!

I ran Blazer 230 gr. ball (aluminum case) thru it last weekend----ran perfect with exceptional accuracy.

I have a 5" 45acp XD waiting for me at my local shop.  I'm dying!  Cash and permit are in hand, and the gun is at the shop, but my work schedule doesn't line up with the shops hours, until mid next week!

I know, I know, life is rough.

I've been told that the trigger reset on the XD is quite far. What has your experience been and does it affect your ability to perform quick followup shots?

I have carried my Glock 21 CCW.  I can pull it off, because I am a big sumbiotch, but my wife busted my balls and said I was 'printing'.

It seems to be very controllable.  I can do very rapid double taps on steel at 25 yards.  It is much better than a double action revolver and was very easy to get used to.  It is a sweet trigger, IMO.

Trigger is good---being use to the Glock when it comes to 'plastic' guns, it took a little getting use to---but after shooting it quite a bit now, I will say its a good trigger---good for double taps OR slow, longer range deliberate shooting.

Earp---try stretching it out an inch to the Tactical model, then see what she says about printing

You guys just don't try hard enough! I bought my XD45 tactical planning for it to be my new ccw, and it's working out just fine. I am a big guy (240, 6'2") and I use an IWB behind my right hip with a spare mag right in front of the holster. A loose cover shirt and I'm good to go in the summer. Of course I've been used to wearing a full size 1911 for most of the last twenty years so I don't see that big of a differance. This is a little thicker, but also a little lighter. And I sure like the fact that I am "wearing" 26 rounds of 45acp.

The gun itself is fantastic (I bought the bi tone model). I love Glocks, but their G21 has always felt uncomfortable in my hands ( I have the start of carpal syndrome). The XD "fits" so much better , it's hard to believe it holds 13 rounds. Yes, the grip is slightly longer than the "regular" sized XD models, but not enough to notice until you have them side by side. I can't reccomend this gun enough. I'm having a hard time "giving up" my 1911, but this is a great replacement.

i know the feeling it was REALLY tough on me making the decision to shelf my olf reliable slabside 1911 for a plastic gun. that said this gun just fits. Hicap, accurate and easy to shoot.

Just got my tactical XD45 this afternoon.  Got it from a local dealer that said his cost was $460 with a little shipping so I gave him $500 and we were both happy.  The gun feels good. Plan to shoot it first thing in the morning.

By the way, I too was thinking winter time CCW with this.  I know it's big but I'm still willing to give it a try.

Please let me know your thoughts on the trigger. Many people seem to believe the trigger reset is too long for quick followup shots.

when i first got mine i had real problem doing fast double taps. my previous goto gun was a 1911.

it took a bit of practive but that is no longer an isse for me. DOubletap groups are not as tight as my 1911's but still on target com. as with anything else, different trigger, need practice.

Has Anyone had Trouble with the trigger not working on the first round?

I Rack the Slide, loading a round.

Slide closed, never move my hand from the grip.

Pull the trigger, and its locked up and wont fire.

release the Trigger, and pull it again and it fires.

I was told that i was grabbing the trigger before the Grip safety.

The malfunction comes and goes, so it could be operator error.

Any Ideas?

The slide on my XD won't rack without depressing the grip safety.  When I rack the slide and squeeze the trigger, it works fine.  Could be a mechanical problem, but I'm not so sure.

Are you releasing the grip safety after you rack the slide?  The only time my trigger won't function is when I don't have a firm grip on the safety.

that is correct the grip safety locks the slide in place as well.

I Can't make it malfunction now.  I don't know what

was going on.  I started it this weekend and now its not doing it.

Who Knows what it was, but it seems to be ok now.

Thanks guys

After owning both the Service45 and the Tac45  , I prefer the Service 45.

Accuracy was the same for me, for both. The 4 inch seemed to balance better for me.

I emailed Springfield Armory about the possibility of them releasing the XD subcompact in 45 ACP.. They replied that they were working the R&D for it and would let me know when to expect it..-AF
