My considerations are the 45 ACP and the ported 357 Sig.  It would be a CCW so I will likely go with a 4" barrel.  I've never fired an XD but I do carry an issued Glock.  Let me hear some opinions from some owners and XD gurus.

My alternate to the XD is a Ruger Redhawk Alaskan in 480.

The XD is a nice gun.   What in particular are you wanting to hear about?

I plan to get rid of my wife's XD40 though......

I love my XD and carry it daily but I wouldn't recommend a ported model for carry.  And why not just go with  the .40 instead of the 357sig?

Agreed, do NOT carry the ported for a CCW, firing it will ruin your nightsight and I've heard in some EXTREMELY RARE case the ported ones crack around the ports.

Ask these guys : www.hs2000talk.com/

If you want to know anything about any xD, they'll know (not that the people here wouldn't )

I wouldn't have a ported gun.
I would prefer the 45 over the 357 for a few reasons:
1. It holds more rounds.
2. It won't damage your hearing as much.
3. My 45acp has been 100% reliable and my 357 wasn't.
4. A 357 bullet might expand but a 45 won't shrink.

An XD is a huge gun for CCW.  I own one (.45) and recommend it, but I carry a Glock 26, or 30 for CCW, and for a sock gun/deep concealment I carry a Taurus 85.  I got the XD for banging steel.

I really am happy with my XD-9 service model.  Fits my hand better than my glock ever did.

Is there any difference in the trigger pull as opposed to a Glock?  I didn't know about the ported ones cracking, this is a deal breaker!

Sounds like it will be 45ACP.  MARPAT duracoat???? :)

trigger is MUCH better than the glock factory trigger.

i have a 4" 9mm and a 5" 45. both have been utterly reliable and more than capable as a defensive firearm.

357 sig is a good round but pricey and ammo can be hard to find at times. you won't do much practicing with it.

My 4" service model XD45acp is hands down my favorite hand gun.
Comfortable to hold, great SA trigger with smooth take up and a clean break at around 3-4#. Great accuracy even with cheap Wolf Ammo and runs all ammo I have tried flawlessly. No failures of any sort after over 600 rounds so far.

I have two.  A subby and a Tactical. Both in .40 S&W

I like them both, but I prefer the Tactical.  That gun is fun to shoot.

I have carried a 4" 1911 for the past eight years until I got an XD-357 Service Model.  I like the absence of external thumb safties and the simplicity of a point and shoot weapon.  I CCW my XD without any issues.  Glocks just don't fit me well so I turned to the XD.  My 357 sig has been 100% reliable and I am completely happy with it.

Huge???? Maybe if you are Warwick Davis(the midgit from the movie Willow) or a 4ft women! It is a great CCW gun and vary nice in size.

I have an XD40 5".  I love it.  My next purchase will be the .45XD just cause I want it.  2K plus through the 40 with 0 function problems.

Not that it matters but I carry a Glock 23C every day.  It's of course ported.  They are great carry guns.  I've shot in low light conditions and they do not affect my vision any more than a regular pistol.

A lot of people here just say it's a problem without actually trying it.

As far as cracked barrels I have no clue.  Mine works just fine.  Same goes for other ported models i've owned in the past.

The XD seems to be a pretty good gun.  I've got to shoot one just once.  It was the 45.  Nice gun.  It's all about personal preference.  To me the Glock feels better in my hands.  Not that I won't buy a XD someday.
