I have the two 10-round mags that came with my XD (bought it before the Sunset).

I emailed SA to see if they could be modified to full capacity, and if parts were available.

The reply simply stated that they don't sell parts for the XD mags, but they sell 16-rd mags for $24.95 + shipping.

I'm planning on getting some full capacity mags, but I'm also hooked on the idea of modifying the 10-round mags.

I guess the next step will be to disassemble a mag and see what things look like inside...

The foulers are shorter in the high caps and you have to cut the dipples out .Wich makes the sides of the mags swell.I modified a pro-mag and wasn't happy with the results.I will trade one high cap for your two 10 rounders .Can only use ten rounders in production uspsa any how.
Great places to buy XD stuff

If you look at the sides of your 10rd mags you will see deep indentations. This is what restricts capacity. The 16rd mags are slab sided. Not worth trying to modify the 10rd mags IMO. Just do what I did. Sell your 10rd mags to someone in California and buy new 16rds. Midway USA has a good price I think.

What if you have a 40. cal.?  I checked pistol gear and the 40. cal. mags are only 12 rds which I allready have two of and they still have those same deep grooves in the side.  So why dont they make some mags for the 40. without those grooves and fit in a few more rounds?
