Say I want to install the tungsten guide rod yet keep my 11lb Wilson Combat spring. The factory guide rod runs flawlessly and I don’t really mind using the hex wrench, but I still want the tungsten one for “reasons” lol Also, where is a good place to source grip screws and escutcheons. MGW has them at $17 each plus shipping. I just want a couple to put in my parts bin. |

Not sure, I should have been more clear that I bought the Dawson guide rod, not the EGW, which I've been very happy with. the ignition kit was from EGW. I haven't bother installing the hammer yet. might do that one day if I go to a one-sided safety. |

Latest update - +/- 1500 rds, no issues. Standard factory 115 gr Fed and Magtech ball ammo. I've now done a bit more fine tuning by running 9# recoil spring (in the EGW one piece guide rod) and 17# main spring. Tuned the Colt sear spring for lighter trigger pull. The 5" comp is a very nice/soft shooting pistol IMO. Parts changed out - Fusion extended mag release to keep my grip the same during mag changes, EGW steel main spring housing add a bit more weight to backside. I do have a Dawson extended firing pin but there has not been an instance where its service is needed, so I am done with monkeying with the pistol at this point, it is more than good enough to take to my next 3 g match. Spares ordered - EGW extractor and ejector. |

Picked up a Prodigy last week to test out the 2011 platform. 600 flawless rounds in 2 days and I’m sold. Added a EGW extended slide stop and magwell. Holosun 507 comp is inbound. Had mine out today. 100% reliable even using my hard cast and powder coated hand loads. Get the extended firing pin. The Ti one that comes in the gun just doesn’t hit hard enough on hard primers. |

Picked up my $799 Prodigy! Very low serial number 1200 range, yet it has the newer lightening cuts in the slide. I’m guessing refurbished by Springfield. Picked up my refurbed Prodigy the other day, has a few cosmetic flaws (mainly some dings on the outside of the crown) but otherwise is in great shape. I'll do my best to leave it stock for a couple thousand rounds before going too crazy with upgrades. update: put 176 rounds through it today. It's awesome.

been eyeballing these and the Romulus for a while now. got to check out the Prodigy 5" and the comped Romulus. the Romulus frame to slide is SLICK, but i prefer the classic lines of the Prodigy so it came home. Trigger(flat) was slightly better on the Romulus, but that doesnt matter to me as i like to tinker with things and will do some upgrades. shot 300 rnds from the Prodigy this am, only had the slide not go into battery once, gotta wear down the cerakote. functioned perfect other than that and extremely accurate. shot it next to my CZ SP-01 tactical and damn i prefer the Prodigy over CZ. i wasn't expecting that. gotta decide on an Optic next. im thinking EPS non carry or 509T, but i read 509t has more tint and a little distortion. whats the go-to optic plate manufacture? @bluedog82 what optic plate did you go with? im thinking Springfield if they come back in stock or the ICM. i hear conflicting info on the CHPWS. im new to 2011's, i've shot glocks and CZ's the longest. so looking at what upgrades i need to "bulletproof" this thing as well. gonna be a fun project to tweak. |

Well, now I've got one too. Stopped at my buddies pawn shop last week & he had one in the case. It was a gen 2 with the internal slide cuts. Late '23 manufacture date. It was NIB, guy sold a bunch of stuff & this was part of it. I got it for $935 out the door. I put 200 rounds through it on the way home with no hiccups. I'll get it out tomorrow and see what it does. Those of you shooting LO with these, what magwell/baseplate combo did you go with? " />

There seems to be a fairly good consensus that the screws that Agency Arms provides with their plates are simply low quality. I also did a half ass job of prepping the threads and as a result, i would have it walk loose ever couple hundred rounds. I ended up sourcing higher quality screws from eBay, and actually took 5 minutes to prep the threads zero issue. Honestly, after shooting glocks for a decade, i am sold on the 2011 platform, and from a practical reliabily perspective, have not found their to be any difference between the prodigy in and my glocks. I do take 5 minutes post range session to do a quick wipe and lube, but nothing i would consider maintenance intensive. I've short higher end options from Staccato and Atlas and while in some respects, they are "nicer" but have not found nicer to translate into practical on target performance. If you have access to a decent gunsmith, with a minimal amount of effort the Prodigy gives up very little to much more expensive pistols. They are very good pistols once dialed in. |

A little more fitting than I was expecting but the safety and slide stop is installed I had to file quite a bit of material from the slide stop so it would fit in my gcode holster. Only two full serrations left on it. Buy it is still much better that stock. Thumb safety wasn’t too bad, but did have to file some material from bottom radius area that would hit the grip. Also had to remove a little of the from to allow detent to fully engage divot on safety. I also swapped the mim firing pin stop with a solid machine one from EGW. That was quite a bit of filing as well. I will function test it tomorrow and if all goes well I’m going to dress up my tool marks Attached File |

Hey guys, I'm looking at switching to the 2011 platform for my gamer pistol (USPSA + steel + 2gun). I'm considering a Prodigy or Staccato P as a starting point. 3rd option I'm considering is "build your own" from a pre-fitted barrel/slide. Is the 2011 platform similar to the AR where parts are widely available and you can do most things on your own? Being able to fix it myself is a big plus. I assume the commonality with the 1911 means that there is lots of open source gunsmithing resources out there? Does anyone have experience with both an upgraded Prodigy and Stacatto P to compare? Pros/cons of 5" vs 4.25"? I'll be using an optic, and lean towards the 5"... but I have "I shot irons for way too long" bias I'm shooting mostly min PF 9mm, is there anything other than lighter springs needed to get that working well? My current thinking is $/performance the Prodigy may be the right entry point into 2011s. If I end up with a "custom" 2011 down the line I'll have a backup that uses the same belt/mags. Also, thanks. Reading this thread has been a great resource on the Prodigy. |

| Parts are absolutely widely available but whether you can fit them easily depends on you. The nice thing is there are a million videos out there so you can search for fitting 1911 safety/barrel/trigger and hammer etc and see if you think it's something you are comfortable with. If you are going red dot I'd just get the shorter barrel. The guns are already heavy enough and you don't need sight radius. It's all just preference though and both options have fans and detractors. |
