I got my XDs back last week and ran 200 rounds through it flawlessly.  Problem is, I can't shoot it worth a damn.

My accuracy is "good enough to stop a threat" but its far from where I want to be.  I've tried every possible 1-hand and 2-hand grip and the accuracy is the same.  By that I mean 5 (or 7) shots within 8" at 7 yards.  My RIA 1911 is very accurate so maybe its just the smaller grip.  I've tried multiple brands of ammo with similar results.  It's not a flinch as I've carefully shot each round paying particular notice to any flinch or movement prior to discharge.  I've also done rapid fire double taps and the accuracy hasn't degraded.

Secondly, this thing it painful to shoot.  Even wearing shooting gloves, I'll get a blister in my thumb at the first knuckle next to the webbing between my thumb and index finger.  Its not slide bite and my LCP will do the same thing but not my 1911.  After 200 rounds, my hand is numb for a few hours afterwards.

I like the gun.  It carries well, is dead nuts reliable but I hate shooting the damn thing.  I'm not the kind of person who'll "carry often, shoot little" and with the less than perfect accuracy, I need to shoot more often for practice but I hate shooting it.

i dont have the discomfort but i usually only run 25-50 rounds through it any given day.   I had problems with the accuacy but my son was on dead nuts.   I have worked with my grip to get better results my problem was over-gripping it because of its size.  a little looser grip and i did much better.   My goal for the XDS is to be able to hit paper at 15 feet - purely self defense.   I would use a full size for any serious shooting.

Slow fire I can keep em in about a 2"-3" group at 7 yards if I speed things up the groups open up.

I had this problem with mine as well. I was using a thumbs up grip, and the recoil was hurting the same area you describe. I moved my strong hand thumb down as much as possible and it helped greatly.

As far as accuracy, what are you shooting? Have you tried different loads?

I was messing around with it today looking at my grip and noticed exactly where my thumb was rubbing.  There was even a slight red mark on the corner of the beavertail from my blood.  I'm use to shooting my 1911 with a "thumb forward" grip and it causes my knuckle to rub the corner of the frame.  Moving to a "thumb down" grip pulls my knuckle away from that corner and may correct that problem.

As far as ammo selection, I've used Federal, WWB, PPU and various HP's.  I'll have to try again with a different grip and see if that changes anything.

Try getting talon rubberized grips for your xds, maybe this will help? I might be getting me some, I dont have any issues with the grip myself but it might help with the recoil some.

Is the XD-S a 9mm or .45?

Looks like his XD-S is chambered in .45 ACP...

Mine drills ragged holes and I find it extremely easy to shoot.  I have seen it on slow motion replay on a go pro and it has very little muzzle rise.
