thinking of picking one up but I noticed that the loaded was very popular here. Anybody own both that could recommend one over the other?

This will be primarily a range/target gun.

Both the RO and the Loaded are Loaded modelsi if that makes any sense. The price point of $800 for the RO is at the lower end of the price points for other Loaded models. The RO's selling point is that it shares the barrel/bushing/slide fit-up of the TRP/TM models which results in better accuracy potential (2-3" groups at 25yds versus 3-5" groups for other Loaded models).  The RO shares the same 5-6lb trigger as other Loaded models.

The RO would make an excellant range pistol.  The large adjustable rear sight would make carrying somewhat inconvenient. I believe the Loaded Target model sells for around $1000 and wouldn't have the accuracy potential of the RO.

The RO will be perfect for that. As stated the adjustable rear sight will shine in a target pistol role.

Get the range officer.  I own one and LOVE it!  For the price(I paid $700 shipped/transfer to me used) it can't be beat for what you get.  I shot mine along with 3 other Colts and a Remington and the Range Officer outperformed them ALL!  I was pleasantly surprised with it.

This is by no means a technical comparison, but I recently picked up the loaded model to go with my range officer.

My RO has a NM prefix so that might explain a little, but the slide fit to frame is noticeably better and tighter with less play.  The back near the hammer looks MUCH better(loaded is sloppy looking on the lines).  The RO has a nicer looking stainless barrel and barrel bushing.  The loaded has a matte looking stainless barrel and screw in guide rod(not a fan of this at all).  Both triggers feel the same to me.  I have not shot the loaded yet but the RO is more accurate than a few of my other Colts.   The sights are much bigger/bulkier on the RO versus the night sights on the loaded.  I like the front serrations on the loaded.  Hammer, beavertail and trigger are all similar or identical.

I really hate the look of the dull looking barrel on the loaded.  I like a shiny barrel.  I guess I could polish it for a while to get it the way I think it should look.  Not sure if newer models have a shiny barrel or not.

which one would be better for ccw and home defense the range officer or the fully loaded?  If I get the range officer I have get night sights.
I hwve heard the range officer is more accurate than the loaded any truth to that?

As far as I know thay both have the same finish on them. I know one is a competition gun and am not going in
To competition. But I hear the RO is very accurate but I dont know how the loaded stacks up as far as accuracy
And evey day carry.

The accuracy should not be a determining factor in your decision.  They are both going to put holes where you point them.  The only real noticeable differences right away are the sights and the loaded having front slide serrations..

Both have the same finish.

The loaded will be smoother around the rear sights.

So you have both of them right? Witch would you use if you dont already for concealed carry?

Parkerized Loaded for Carry unless you want to change/modify the RO's rear sight.

I would never carry either, I have glocks for carry.

But if I did have to choose, the loaded because of the rear sight on the RO.
