| What are some good Guide Rod replacements for the XD service model? I came across a guide rod for a 1911 but wasn't sure if it would work? It was a two piece Guide rod. |
| Check out PistolGear.com. I've been running one for a few years in my XD 9 Service and love it. That was my upgrade when I hit the 10,000 round count. |

Here you go. I definitely like the way the gun handles better with the Pistogear guide rod than factory. I've put almost 3K thru it in this configuration.

Does it have better recoil control with the new guide rod or what makes it perform better? To me it does feel like I have better recoil control. It adds a little extra weight up front, and I can track the front sight better and get back on target easier in rapid fire situations. When I first got it I shot back and forth between it and the factory assembly at the range––it wasn't a monumental difference but a definite improvement. You also have the ability to try different spring weights with this setup since it isn't a captured guide rod. And since it isn't "heavier than common steel" it is still legal for IDPA since the XD falls into the ESP division. |
