I do not believe Colt can fix these old revolvers anymore, mine has drag and timing issues.  Cylinder stops turning before it in alignment and of course the hammer will drop with no effect.  Just doing a partial roll with each pull of the trigger unless you help it along.

Know repair wizards?

Colt still does repair on their revolvers and are the ONLY people I would recommend you sending your Colt in for repair. They are very reasonable and still do quality work. I honestly wouldn't trust any of my Colt revolvers to anyone else..... and I have several of them. I've sent 2 revolvers into Colt and had great results with both of them.

Check to see if it times if you cock it fast or if hammer is cocked all the way to frame. If you try shooting it just pulling trigger(double action ) and it times fine then it could be in the hand assembly being worn.Thats the little piece that rotates cylinder.Colt doesn't have the parts anymore but they sold the stock and rights to another company and they will sell you one for about $40 bucks plus shipping. The company is Jack1st Dist.! Find owners manuel and look up part number and they will cross it over,on the Python the jack 1st part number is 50487 cost is $36 plus $9.50 shipping! (just found my notes) Sometimes the hand ass. will wear or be flared to where it won't fully rotate cylinder! Hope this helps! oh yeah phone number to the place...605-343-9544

Thanks guys!
Its been to Colt once already.  Feels like something is bending inside.  I will have to gut it and see for myself, as some have suggested.

As far as colt doing repair work that is bull. Tried to get my New Service in 44-40 looked at and was turned down. They don't work on "old" guns.

No it's not bull!!!  They do still work on D frame pistols and Pythons. I've PERSONALLY sent in a Magnum Carry and Detective Special for some internal cleaning and some trigger work. I'd be glad to show you the reciepts. If you go to the Colt Forum there are MANY guys that have sent in pistols for refinishing, action work, and timing adjustments. Depending on which specific pistol you have some parts are no longer available, but they still do work on Diamondbacks. Apparently your New Service happens to be one of those. Don't take my word for it call them:

Colt will no longer do any work on older model guns for which they no longer have parts.
The last New Service was made in 1944.  Colt simply doesn't have any parts left.

This means that they won't even re-blue an older model, because if they find a problem, they can't replace a part, and the customer would scream about Colt not being able to repair it.

In general, Colt will service most pistols made since about 1950.
