I picked up a Taurus 617 about a month ago.. and I really havent read about anyone owning one yet..

Does anyone here like them??

I bought it because it has a 7 shot cylinder , its ported and has a conceiled hammer.

The first day I shot it, I was shocked at the great porting job! I barely noticed the kickback!

anyway.. here is a picture of a comparable model... btw, I bought it for 265!!

My wife has a 617 but hers has the normal hammer configuration. She loves it. Although she feeds it .38s at the range, she is dangerous when its fed with .357s. When I say dangerous, I mean accurate as hell!

Noner, where did you pick that pistol up at?  Great looking gun. Was thinking about getting my wife one for the house and the car....and of course I will have to make sure it is properly broken in

I just bought one and took it to the range. It does not have the ported barrel and is in stainless. I LOVE IT. it shoots great and is a great ccw weapon. i paid 295.00 for it new and i think its a great little .357. when shooting full power 357 loads with it she lets you know you just fired a round but it is not bad at all.

Sorry, I lost track of this thread...

I picked up the gun from an auction house and paid much less than even dealers can get them for...

even after tax and transfer fee's I was still under dealer cost. [my dealer]

Ive shot nothing but .357's from my little gun... and I love it, but I noticed that I blew the blueing off the front sight becasue of the porting... but then again... I may have just heated the metal to another color..

This gun has proven to be acurate enought at 10 and 20 yards, but at 25+ I start to lose control of my groupings.... not even worth shooting it at distance..

I would have to consider this a fun gun or a good backup only... but never a main offensive or defensive handgun..

*small enough to take on hiking and camping trips, and powerfull enough to get the job done, with enough rounds.

The entire Cylinder attachment broke free from the frame  (as in the pictures)

I was able to re attach the part, but after 1 shot, it broke free again...

its going back  to Taurus on Monday.

Did the screw just back out ? The Screw just above the trigger retains the crane assembly.

nope, the actual carrage assembly is broken (wont retain the pin)

back to taurus it goes.
