I am getting interested in revolvers, but have no real knowledge of them. I would love a specific style, but do not know the different frame styles or numbers.

What I would love is a nicely blued model, with a shorter barrel (2-3 inch) in .38 or .357 magnum. Here is the different part, I only like the look of those aftermarket (hogue, I believe) wood grips that have the rounded bottoms.

Weird, I know, how about one of the gurus here explaining to me the kind of frame I would want, or a S&W model number to look for?

Sounds like a S&W K frame or L frame is in order. Within your parameters, the 2.5 inch 686 is the one I'd go for.

Edit: Whoops, forgot the "blued" part.

I don't believe that S&W makes a 2-3 inch barreled .357 mag. revolver in blue anymore. The model 60 fits your requirements except for the finish.

J-frame 5 shot or L-frame 6/7 shot.

Got a photo?
I'm thinking of a classic M19 snub, that would have the ejector shroud. It's a K-frame, no longer produced. I don't have a pic handy, but you can probably find one easy enough.
Or, maybe an L- frame (581, 586, 681, 686), with a full underlug. Many 2.5 inchers were made, and quite a few 3 inch bbls are out there too.

Here's my 686+ from the Performance Center:

Sorry, not one of my more artful photos.

A model 13 would work as well if he didn't care about adjustable sights.

That is a beautiful gun. Exactly what I was talking about, except that I really want a blued one.

Sorry if I did not say that I expect to have to buy a used one.

A snub 586 is going to be hard to find. I did see a beautiful custom 3" 581 done by Pinnacle for a S-W forum member recently, but I haven't ever seen to many short bbl'd L frames, unfortunately.

Take a look at this M19:

If I had money to burn I'd be looking at this one.

Remember, grips are easy to change, so don't worry about what kind of grips are on a revolver if it's the one you want. Good luck in your search, and post pictures when you find your "grail".

The Smith & Wesson models you're looking for are the Model 19 (2.5", .357) and Model 15 (2", 38) for adjustable sight revolvers and Model 13 (3", 357) and Model 10 (2" or 3", 38) and Model 12 (2", 38) for fixed sight revolvers. These are all blued K frame guns.

Slightly larger blued L frame Model 586's do exist in 2.5" but are uber-expensive collectible pieces.

There are a number of J frame models (36,37,38, and 40) which might be what you want if you like small frame five shot revolvers.

As far as grips, there are plenty of after-market and used grips that would work.
Try Ahrends Grips and Hogue Grips.

Edit: And this was a great way to use my post 357!
