Well, I not too awfully long ago purchased a SP101 because my CZ97B was just a little too bulky for me.  I have shot factory 38's & 357mag's out of it and I love it so far (haven't carried it yet but I have just bought a holster for it).

My main question is about speed-loaders for the SP101.  What all is out there?  The speed-loader that I got with the gun (cant recall what it was specifically as it was a throw in deal basically) didn't seem to fit correctly as it had difficulty getting the rounds relatively strait in the chambers.  Is this normal?

Thanks for your time

A proper speed loader should be able to align all the bullets so that they drop into the cylinder when you release the speedloader.  Sounds like you got a freebie that doesn't work.

well.

your grips have to be such to have clearance for the speed loader.  If your grips arent, then they will interfere with the loading process.

i cant remember whats on the SP101 except maybe those rubber/plastic type.

AFA the speed loaders go, there are several.   i personally like the safariland style that "ejects" the cartridges.  but you may like otherwise.  i would find your favorite gun shop and see what they offer.

When you say "Doesn't fit", do you mean the rounds won't fit into the cylinder or do you mean the speedloader doesn't fit against the sideplate to align the rounds to the cylinder?  If the latter, it could be (as above) you have an incorrectly sized speedloader or the grip isn't relieved enough to allow the speedloader to lay flat against the sideplate.

I use HK36A speedloaders on my SP101 as well as speedstrips.

I use HKS36 speedloaders for mine, but it's fitted with a hogue monogrip instead of the factory grips.

As it's already been stated, if your grips don't have the proper clearance. speedloaders won't work correctly.

I've found that the HKS speedloaders don't seat properly with .357 rounds (mine has the Hogue monogrip) but works just fine with .38+P.  That little bit of reduction in the OAL of the cartridge makes all the difference.

Can's speak to the other brands like the Safarilands.  If it's a big deal load .357 with .38 reloads or go to a speedstrip.

i have the factory grips on the revolver still.  haven't found a need to change yet.  I believe the speed-loader that i did get was a HK36 not sure much else about it, seems to have disappeared in some of my shooting gear.

Or if you don't mind spending some money, Gemini Customs offers a service relieving the cylinder for the use of full moon clips, and include 10 clips in the package.  I haven't done it, nor do I know anyone who has, but it appears that it would work fairly well.

I'm going to find out when I get a 3" SP101, or when I send in one of my M65 S&W's.

Please let us all know how it turns out.  I'm considering getting mine done, but not quite ready to take that plunge at the moment.

FWIW, I prefer the Bianchi Speed Strips for my SP101.  The HKS Speed loaders (at least) do not work well with the factory grips.
