You ever have one of those days?
I saw in my big S&W Book that these were only made with square butts. The 3" models came with round butts. So I didn't even remove the factory rubber grips before I went grip shopping.
(You all probably see what's coming, right? )

I get home with a nice set of square but K frame grips and here's how they fit. You'd think I'd be smarter than this by now. So.... Do I try to trade them for a round butt set with someone or use this as an excuse to buy a square butt 65 to go with this one?

NUTS!!!

I have Hogue mono-grips on my 64 and HATE them.  Working on some wood ones and looking for another set of Pachymayer compact grips.  I have an extra pair of round K-Frame stock S&W round grips if you are interested......

I'd be happy to trade these grips for a set of K/L frame service type round butt grips in similar condition. Thanks!
Pics?
I'd be happy to do a even swap using priority mail.

I know I could buy another set new from S&W for $31 plus shipping. But then what do I do with this set?

Thanks for the offer!

This old Police revolver came with the rubber factory S&W stocks. I like them and they feel great. But they are much more builky and the rubber drags on my shirt. Not as good for CC. I figure the wood service grips are best for carry purposes.

Edit to add: Just noticed you're in Va. I'm in SE Va. If you're close I could drive over to do the swap.

You missed the boat on this one.
The correct answer was:

use this as an excuse to buy a square butt 65 to go with this one

Thanks for playing.

What holster are you using?

I just picked up a 4" M65 and I'm using a G&G black leather duty setup.

It's a "Strong Leather" brand pancake holster.

I met up with bmyk today. It's cool to meet another local enthusiast from this Board! And you what this guy did? He didn't want to trade me on the grips. He just gave me the round butt set I needed! What a guy! Thanks Man!
Here they are on the Model 65.

So I'll gonna keep the karma train rolling here. It's the least I can do. I'll pass along this set of square butt service type S&W grips to any member here who can use them. First person to IM me and give me your address in the USA can have them. I'll cover the mailing to you. But! You'll be responsible to pass the favor along to someone else after you get these. Either here or to a local friend. I paid $20 for these and I'll cover mailing. My way of saying thanks to the members here who make the Revolver section such a professional and helpful section! I'll respond to the first IM I get and then post it here so you know who got them.

Here they are. K/L frame square butt S&W service type grips in near excellent condition.

Just IM me if you can use them. (I did just check my profile. My IM option is working now.)

My thanks again to "bmyk"!

NP SidecarNutz, glad they worked out for you, it was also nice to talk guns for a few.  I just noticed your 65 has a lined back strap while my 3" 64 is polished.  Curious.\

I agree. I bought  the "Standard Catalog of S&W" hoping to learn about these Military and Police model pistols. Unfortunately, there are some real gaps in the book's info on them compared to many other models.

Sorry Man. I shipped them to Yobo Friday.

They are just $31 plus shipping new from S&W. The service style grips are very reasonably priced.

I just fired my M65 today for the first time!
I was SHOCKED at how accurate it was!!!!

(literally shooting touching/overlapping groups)

Its a keeper, even if it looks like a beast.

I have a model 64 with a pencil barrel. It was a round butt with some ugly as hell micarta grips on it. No problem I say, because I have a set of S&W round butt grips at home that used to be on a model 19. Should work great huh?  Wrong. round butt grips won't fit this round butt. It is some kind of custom work or something. Who ever did it, did a good enough job that you can't tell it didn't come from the factory like that.
Anyway, you might check a set of round butts on it before you buy a set to make sure you don't have an odd duck like me.
