OK first I am a, always have been & will remain a Walther fan

however I recently picked up a COLT ploice postive 38 spc, then a S&W 65-5 357

I love the S&W the colt is harder to warm up to but that stainless S&W is just amazing it shoots better than any auto I've held including KIMBER .45's IMO

I think I have a pistol that I want to be buried with, is this odd?

any others out there that grew up on auto's but find the wheel guns to be better in every way but capacity which is no big deal to them?

There's lots of guys out there who got bit by the wondernine/hi-cap bug & have come around to a S&W trigger glory. While I normally carry my 1911 Micro, I do sometimes switch to my Model 19 for funs & giggles....................

The model 65 is the epitome of KISS precision. There are prettier, sexier guns but the 65 is just a solid accurate work horse.

I'm right in the middle of a wheel gun renaissance myself. I'm building up a stable of S&W Models 10,13, 15 and M66 guns for my collection.

Models 12,18 and 19 are on the list as well.

I have to agree with ya on that score. This is my M-65 with a few mods:

Wow, I have one too, but the 4" version.  Just curious, you said you moded your 65, what did you do?

And SD307, you are not the only one.  I too am in the same situation....althought I may not want to be buried with just the S&W (rather ALL of my guns).

My evolution went from SA 1911 GI, to Glock 17, to Beretta NEOS to S&W 65, to Ruger Single Six.  So, can you tell from the pattern????

Initially, I was going to trade the 65 off (the previous owner tapped and drilled the frame and mounted a scope on top of it for deer hunting....and he also loosen the set screw on the frame - which caused light hammer strikes and a lot of ignition problems).  But after I took the mount off, retighten the screw and shot it some more, I think this is one gun I'll never sell.  Most accurate of all of my handguns.

I've taken all of my handguns on hunting outings, and the 65 is the only one that I've been able to take animals with and now completely trust it.  It is my "back-up" gun while in the woods.  Gotta love it.  Now I want a S&W 617 to supplement the 65 (shooting .38 specials and .375 mag is getting to be too expensive for this recent graduate), so maybe .22 would work better.

Well my choice has not evolved as much as some

Beretta 92f, Glock 27, Walther p99, S&W 65

BTW I still own everything but the glock 27 which was the worst of the 4, it had a tendency to not pick up the next round out of the mag if shot one handed, that bothered me it didn't matter if it was a JHP or a FMJ

I have always preferred the Revolver.

I started off as a "wheel gun guy" 27 years ago and even though a Glock 17 is now my "go to" gun, I can still shoot a k-frame Smith better.  Here are two I own now; a 3-inch Model 66-3 in .357 and a Model 14-5;

Yes, the models 64/65/66/67 were all K-frames. The models 581/586/681/686 were L-frames with the full length lug under the bbl................
