Hi folks,

Recently got my first gun requiring moon clips, a Smith & Wesson 22-4 that is chambered in .45ACP.

My question is about the moon clips themselves. They appear to be stamped, and as such have a rounded edge and a sharp edge. Is there any value in affixing cartridges with the sharp edge facing a specific direction? Does it make any difference at all? I'm thinking about wear to cases that I will be saving for reloading.

IIRC, the sharp edge should face the cylinder, (rounded edge against the brass).

Ok, so rounded edge facing back toward the rim, and sharp edge facing the direction of bullet travel.

That is also the way I do it. Don't be afraid to throw those empty moon clips in the tumbler with your brass. That gets rid of any carbon deposit on them. I believe you can still buy moon clips from Ranch Products for under 30 bucks per hundred, also.
