I have a GP100 that I bought years ago and did some polishing on and put a Wilson spring kit in, to improve the trigger. The trigger in this revolver is silky smooth and it is a dream to shoot. My best friend has asked my advice on getting a GP100, and was thinking about the Match version. I have not been able to see the Match version to gauge how nice the trigger is. The question being about how good the trigger is and weather it is worth the extra money. Is the GP100 Match's trigger worth the extra $125-$150 in price? Is it going to be better than the trigger job I can do on the regular GP?

The pull on my Match Champion in single action is simply the best of any gun I own. In double action it is excellent.

Subjective, but you get much more than just a trigger improvement with the MC. The stocks fit my hands perfectly, as opposed to the usual grips and the fiber optic front sight is a significant improvement.

I also think the MC looks much better than a regular GP, subjective again, but that's how I feel. You really get more than $130 worth of improvements.

My match champion is hands down the best value I have ever got in a fire arm purchase

for around a hundred bucks more you get
- better trigger
- better grip
- slightly less weight
- better sights

definitely worthwhile

I own a S&W model 27 and a match champion.

My match champion is definitely equal to the model 27.

And I enjoy shooting it more.

Imho, you absolutely can not go wrong with the match champion.

I purchased a Match Champion a few months ago.  Honestly, I can't add much to what has been already posted because it is a wonderful revolver.  I did compare it side by side with a regular GP100 and the remarkably better trigger was what sold me on the Match Champion.  Also, the different grip style makes it a pussy cat with full power .357 loads.  I really enjoy the gun.

I bought one for my fathers 60th birthday last year and it's a great gun. I knew he would prefer wood grips, so the price difference right there almost makes up for increased up front cost of the Match Champion over a standard GP100. But, as others have said, you also get the slab side half lug barrel, 11 degree target crown, striated barrel to reduce glare, Novak sights, chamfered cylinder, wood grips, and the tuned action.
