First off, let me say that I love N frames.  I have a 27-3 4 inch that is damn near factory new with matching box, AVU prefix, great blueing and just a great little pistol.  The trade offer is for a 629-4 Trail Boss 3 inch.  It is like new, factory Magnaport, no MIM, and is a beast.  Would you make this trade?  Why or why not?

My thinking is - neither are P&R, and i would be more likely to use the Trail Boss.  I dont care for the marking on the Boss, but i can live with it.

I have a few more 357 N frames, and a couple of 44 mag N frames.  Looking at gunbroker, it would seem the Trail Boss is worth more, but not by much.

Please, tell me your thoughts.  Thanks in advance

I prefer stainless when I can get it with what I want.

this is really a question of caliber and ported barrel.

1. do you prefer 44 or 357 ?  out of a 3" barrel the only real advantage 44 has is diameter.

2. If I am not mistaken the trail boss is ported... is that a deal breaker? A 3" ported 44 would be a beast.

3. I don't think you could go wrong either way. If it was me It'd keep the 27, but I am a whore for 357 N & L, frames.

I'm a big fan of 3 inchers. I'd probably do the deal.

Personally, I'd do the trade, mostly because 3" N frames are better than 4" N frames, IMHO. Unfortunately, I own neither.

I would keep the Model 27. That was the flagship Smith and finding one in mint condition is getting harder and harder. I regret selling my 3.5" nickel one and my 4".

You said you are more likely to use the Trail Boss so do the trade and use it.

For collecting, the 27

For using/shooting the 629

Is there any chance you post a pic of that eye candy you're calling a 27?

The 27 would be better for target shooting, and for sitting at home with a glass of scotch and the (empty) 27 muttering "my  precious".

The 629 would be a better carry gun if self defense from large critters was a concern.

This seems like a personal preference call to me; I would much rather have the 27, but that's just me.

Top right.  Now, the deal does not look like it will happen.  It does not break my heart at all." />
