I've got a Sauer and Sohn western marshal chambered in 44 mag. I was recently given this since the hammer spring was broken. I replaced that, and put it back together in what I thought was the proper way, however I'm not sure. There are two problems which I'm sure are related. A)The trigger doesnt trigger the hammer (not sure how else to phrase that) B)The hammer doesnt spring forward to fire If I'm manually moving it, I can pull the trigger and then drop the hammer, but it doesnt work on its own. AR's and pistols I'm familiar with, revolvers however not at all. I'm not sure if this is because I put it back together incorrectly, or if theres a part missing. Any help is appreciated. |

Does the hammer move forward with the force of the hammer spring?
Does the trigger move but then the hammer doesn't drop? -or- Does the trigger not move when at full cock? Dumb question but I've got to ask: Are you pulling it all the way back to full cock, not half or 1/4 cock? Post a pic of the hammer position when it doesn't work. If you are in a picture taking mood post pics from side and the rear with the grips removed. |

When I cock the hammer, the trigger moves back into firing position, however pulling the trigger doesnt result in the hammer moving at all. It unlcocks it however, and then I can manually lower the hammer. I'll check and take some pics next chance I get. |

So if I read this correctly, the hammer spring doesn't actually push the hammer forward? If that's the case I'd say your replacement spring is too wide and is rubbing on the interior of the grips. Try working the action with the grips off the gun. If it works w/o the grips, thin the sides of the hammer spring. Make sure you leave a good polish on the sides of the spring to prevent stress risers that will cause cracks in the future. |

I just hadnt put the hammer spring in under the hammer (duh), but I'm not familiar with revolvers so I'm not too embarrassed about such a dumb mistake. Put it together properly, dry fired it to make sure it worked and cylinder lock up was good (both of which were) and then took it out to shoot, which it did well. Thanks again for the help. |
