ive heard about the judge and now the govener, but the only one i have thought about getting was the taurus public defender. i think all the names are pretty dumb. I like the idea of them and if i was to get one  it would the defender, lighter smaller.
does anybody have one or any of these revolvers? please your thought and pictures. thank you

My thoughts: It's a gimmick.

.410 shotshells need more barrel length to be effective.
.45LC needs better rifling to be accurate.

There are far better (and SMALLER) guns, for carry or defense, at the same pricepoint.

THEY. ARE. FUN.

It's quite an experience to shoot skeet with a handgun. Adds another level of challenge.

Also makes for an effective snake gun.

When it comes to one of these revolvers, I'd suggest avoiding the smaller, polymer frame models. You'll never carry it, anyway.

Personally, after firing my boss's Judge, I'm fully intent on picking up a S&W Governor. Only for fun.

1) As stated, Governor's cylinder holds 6 rounds to the Judge's 5.
2) Governor is cut for moon clips, allowing it to fire .410, .45LC, and .45ACP.
3) It's produced by a company known for quality, and not for it's hate-spawning customer service.
4) Comes with Tritium front sight from the factory.

Not exactly hard to find... They're all over Gunbroker. And I saw plenty at the last gunshow I attended in VA Beach.
There's a BIN on GB for $500 before shipping. If I didn't just start a new job...

The Governor is very accurate with 45 acp. I can hit a gong with no problem at 100 yards. I also get good patterns out to 15 and 20 yards.

Great advantage of the Judge & Governor is ammo compatibility w/ your AR:

I saw a video on the judge and how the 410 does not penetrate well from those guns.  They look great when the company is doing a video shooting it out the window of a car onto a shoot n see target.  That looks great, but their penetration tests were lousy.  Better choices out there.  The video was enough to turn me away.

I have been wanting a .45/.410 for a trail gun for several years.  However, every single Taurus I have looked at has had a lousy trigger pull with a lot of cylinder rotation at full lock up.  As much as I wanted one I could not bring myself to buy what I considered such a poorly made pistol, plus I have never found a Taurus revolver to hold up to much shooting for very long.  No, I am not a Taurus hater, just sold too many and looked at too many used Taurus revolvers over the years and IMO they just don't hold up. Great warranty though.  The time I sold them Taurus had a NQA policy and the customer would have his fixed or a new pistol back within 10 days, only thing was that we were sending way too many back for repair or replacement IMO.
Anyway, I picked up the Governor a month or so ago and am fairly impressed.  Recoil is not bad despite its light weight.  Function with the proper .410 ammo is fine, but can bind up the cylinder with the wrong stuff.  I have not had a chance to do any real accuracy testing and I do not consider off hand shooting a test of the handgun's accuracy, but only that of the shooter's ability to shoot offhand.  I am no wiz-kid when it comes to off hand shooting and can almost always cut my groups by 3/4 by shooting off a bench.  I have not done that yet with the S&W.
That disclaimer out there, the Smith does function flawlessly with .45 ACP and .45 Colt ammo.  No +P though.  The cylinder notch is directly over the chamber and damned if it is not paper thin.  Its the same way on my son's S&W Mountain Gun .45 Colt but it is rated for +P ammo, but nothing on the Governor I can find says +P is OK.  The one thing I found that did disappoint me on the Governor is the cylinder lock up.  While tighter than that of the Taurus, it is nowhere near as tight as it is on all my other S&W revolvers.  All my others are rock solid at full lock up, the Governor has some movement. Again, not as much as any Taurus I have examined but still more than I wanted to see.  I thought maybe mine was in need of a trip back to S&W until I examined three other Governors.  All were the same.  The trigger, SA and DA pull are typical S&W.  Outstanding.  There is certainly nothing to complain about that on the Governor.  The trigger pulls on every Judge I have examined quite frankly sucked.  Just telling like it is.  Six shots versus five, night sight on the front (what about the freaking rear sight S&W?  Couldn't you at least put some dots on the rear?), and the ability to shoot three different cartridges, 5 if you count the Scofield* and the GAP* all tend to tip the scales toward the Governor, at least for me.
On a scale of one to ten I'd rate the Governor a 8, the Taurus a 5.  Points deducted on the S&W for lock up not being rock solid, no dots on the rear sight, cylinder locking up with some .410 ammo, and not being rated for +P in .45 Colt or ACP.  Still, I'd take the Governor over the Judge every day of the week and twice on Sunday, and did.

*I have read it will shoot the Scofield and the GAP but do not know that for a fact or even if it is recommended by S&W.
