Does anybody know if S&W will rebarrel a mid 90s vintage M66 with a 6" barrel? Mine is a 2.5" and was thinking about getting something a little longer if they could do it.

It will be much cheaper to sell what you have abd buy what you want.

You would be tearing apart an Iconic belt gun to make a target hunting pistol.
I think your Smith is a round butt.

I'd suggest looking for 686.

Last I heard, S&W no longer has any Model 66 barrels.
You could contact them to ask to be sure this is true.

In any case, a Model 66 with the 2 1/2" barrel is getting to be a more and more valuable gun.  You'd be better off selling it and buying a 6 inch.

What everybody else has said - those 2.5 inch (and 3 inch, for that matter) guns command a premium over the longer barrel. If you want to sell it and buy a six inch, you will pocket coin, instead of spending it.  Also - I would keep it and fund the longer barrel separately.

No No No. I know folks are trying to say and I agree with the theory but I honestly believe if you sell this gun at sometime in the future you will be kicking yourself.

If you want a longer barrel revolver save up and buy one .

When folks say "never sell a gun" They are talking about just this type of situation. Yeah if you get tired of some current production common gun
go ahead and sell it,it can always be replaced if you decide to go back but to sell a clasic old gem like this replacement is dificult and expensive

Yeah, don't do it.
