It's a 629-1 Classic Hunter with a non-fluted cylinder and 6" barrel.  Judging from pics its in pretty good condition.  What is this worth approximately?

people will ask.....

does it have the Internal Lock?

If it's in really good shape, I would say $650 ish.

The lock may or may not bother you. I have several Smiths and none have locks.

It's a no lock.  I'm getting it for $600.  Seemed like a fair price.

Come to think of it, I forgot to ask the seller if it was pre-lock.  Just assumed it wasn't being a 629-1.  Is there a chance it could have the lock?

It's pre-lock and doesn't have the endurance package.

If you don't shoot 1000s of over max loads or lots of bullets over 250 gr. it will be fine.

Yeah, just don't beat it to death with heavy loads, doesn't have the endurance package.

Could someone please describe the endurance package?  Would a 629 classic have this?

The Classic has the package, the bolt notches in the cylinder are longer for a visual check.

The ones on yours are short.

Very good price for this gun.  I have one just like it, only with a fluted cylinder.  Very accurate, and has killed a few wild hogs.

629-3 & -4 have the heavier stuff with the -4 being the last of the "good forged" parts guns, -3 seems to be the last of the traditional S&W revolvers.

629-1 has no MIM & no safety _hit, but may have a recessed cylinder.

$600 is an ok price if you like it and thats all that matters

I will be selling off a few soon

EDIT: top is a -3 while the -1 is in the middle of pics.

Very nice. I have a scoped 629-2 and love it.

I will admit, figuring out the differences between model #'s and serial prefixes is confusing.

A local shop has (or at least had) a used 629 that I'm thinking about picking up when I get home from TDY. I think the asking price is $700. What are some things I should look at and how low should I try to talk the guy down? This will be my first revolver.
