I've been using Unique for 38, 357, and 45 ACP for about 35 years now.
My favorite load for the 357 is 6 gr of Unique and 158 hard cast semi-wad cutter which puts out about 1000 fps.
Has someone got a load that uses the 158 in the 357 and puts out the same velocity?
I'm wanting to try some other powder than Unique just for sh*ts and grins.
What's your favorite shooting load for the range and all around use?

99% of the time I use 2400 in magnum loads. It doesn't burn as clean at lower pressures/velocities though. Power Pistol looks to be a good choice.

in .357, i use 158gr LRN over 8gr AA#5 for around 1,000ft/sec.

meters very well, burns very cleanly. AA5 is a slower powder than unique, but faster than blue dot. really works well for sub-maximal magnum loads.

To be honest, I've got nothing right at 1k.

I've got a sweet .38 Special 231 load that does 800 fps from my Model 27 with a Keith SWC. I've also got tons of 2400 loads doing roughly 1100 and up.

I guess this is a tag, then.

9.0 gr HS-6 over a 158gr LSWC gets me about 1150 fps from most of my 4" S&W's. This is my favorite load (for now), accurate, clean, and very consistent. Meters like a dream, too.

Looking at my load data, looks like 8.0 to 8.5 grains will get you 1000 to 1050 fps. out of a 4" bbl.

Only downside, if it is one, is that you really need to use a SP magnum primer for best results. Start at 8 grains and go up for lead, I think you'll like it.

eta to correct to 9.0 gr, sorry about that
