I have a 1972 made Detective Special that has an odd problem.

One chamber consistently skips the cylinder stop when fired double action.  Same chamber every time and it stops turning halfway between chambers.

Single action, all six chambers line up fine.

I've been unable to find a local gun smith (Tampa, FL) who'll look at it.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

All I've heard is that Colts, especially their revolvers, need an experienced Colt gunsmith to work on them. So if you do find someone in your area that's willing to work on it,  I'd ask about their experience before turning it over to them. I'd maybe try contacting Colt. Not sure if they work on them or not anymore, but maybe someone there could point you in the right direction.

Good luck!

You need a GOOD gunsmith to work on a Colt DA revolver. Lots of them have been wrecked by some "smith" trying to correct a problem.
I do know if I have a problem with one of my newer DA Colts, it's going back to Colt Firearms to be worked on.
I've worked on a few Colt 38s over the years and I now know enough to find someone who is really experienced with them to fix a timing problem or fit new parts.

Not sure but that sounds like the ratchet on the ejector star might be worn in one spot.  The pawl (or hand, whatever Colt calls it) might be slipping over that one tooth in the ratchet.  You might be able to fix it by replacing the extractor star.  Cylinder & Slide are one of the few shops that still work on DA colt revolvers; I'm not sure if Colt will work on any of the pre-80's guns anymore.

last year I talked to Colt about doing action jobs on my Mk III revolvers and my Python. They said they could definitely slick them up. Don't know why they wouldn't do some repair work on a Detective Special if they are still doing action jobs.
