Give it to me straight, how bad or unusual is this? It isn't visible on the exterior of the frame. Only on the inside so it doesn't appear very deep.

Would Ruger take care of this?

Looks like a casting flaw...

I know they do not waranty their shit but bet they fix that with a replacement  or repair of some sort, would look bad in their file if  it blew. Was that damage done from more than full house heavy loads? look like the reason to me,I own two a regular and super both shot with regular loads but never saw that begin to happen

My thought too, but I'll look at mine and see if there are any similarities.

My Super Redhawk doesn't have any casting flaws or whatever it is as you have, but otherwise its quite the same

I bought it used, so I don't know how it was treated before me, but the hottest loads I have shot are Winchester white box. The crack was not there when I got it a couple of years ago.

I am pretty sure Ruger would replace that for you. You will have to pay for the transfer but I would call them and let them know what you see and consider sending it to them. Shipping could be very expensive for you but if you have a dealer that will mail it priority mail it can save you some money compared to Fed Ex Overnight!

Good Luck!

ETA:  Worst case they repair it if it is a small crack.

Sure it's not just a scratch? The only reason I ask is because it's not on the other side...

Have a gunsmith check it out.

Yeah, maybe have it MPIed? Is that practical?

Can you see it on the perpendicular surface of the frame where the barrel is screwed in?

Buuulshit! I had a Bisley with an improperly indexed barrel and they paid for overnight shipping both ways and threw in an action and trigger job, free. I got it a week or so after they sent the UPS guy to pick it up from me.

If you call Ruger up and tell them the frame is cracked they should help you out pronto.

Ruger firearms do not carry any warranty.

That doesn't mean anything because as you said, they DO take care of you, but they officially do not have a warranty.

if it is a "crack" then why doesnt it show thru the frame?  where the pics on the other side?

to me,it looks like someone took sometthing to it and scratched the frame.

At first I thought it was a scratch as well, but looking at it closely, it definitely seems to be a crack. It doesn't protrude to the outside of the frame and seems to be not very deep in nature. Almost like it just started...

I noticed it last night right before I started cleaning it from some shooting last week.I am going to give Ruger a call and see what they say.

I would look at it under a bright light with a jewelers loupe . From the pics I feel it's not a crack .

Yep, I agree. That looks like some kind of flaw or scratch...not a crack. If it was a crack...you would most likely see it on the other side also.

I agree. Is there someplace locally you can get that frame Magnafluxed? That would tell the story immediately.

ETA- A crack wouldn't necessarily have to go all the way through the frame. They all have to start somewhere.

E-mail the pic's to Ruger. It's possible that it is a crack.

i'm not a revolver expert, but it could be a crack (perhaps induced by a casting flow) even though it doesn't go through both sides.

think if you had a c-clamp.  if there's a flaw on the inner portion towards the center, and you tighten the sucker down reallllly hard, the crack will grow from the flaw.  it'll just start growing radially out until you stress it enough to drive that crack through to the other side.

Scratch, doesn't look like a typical crack.
