I have a revolver (as in the Subject) and I am at a loss as to how I use the rear groove sight (non adjustable rear sight, just a groove) in conjuction with the front blade sight.

I have fired the revolver at approximately 9 yards using different sight patterns and, I am embarassed to say, that I have missed a 9" diameter paper plate 10 times. Missid it completely. And with the cost of ammo these days, I need some help, and/or guidance.

Can someone tell me how to use the sights, or direct to a place that will explain how to use them? I am new to this style of revolver and could use some assistance.

It is difficult to have confidence in a firearm when you don't know how to use it properly, and have a clue as to where the bullet is going..

Thanks in advance for any information on this.

Is it a groove in the top of the frame or a notch in the hammer? With either of them its actually just like regular iron sights on any gun. But the rear grooves aren't as easy.

Focus on the front sight, let the target go a little fuzzy, let the rear sight (or groove in this case) go out of focus too. And squeeze the trigger. If you are new to handguns, it takes a little practice to get the hang of it.

Also, don't make it hard on yourself. Bring that paper plate back to about 10 feet and start working from there.

anomand has it right also it is not uncommon for some single actions to have the point of impact far off from point of aim.

Get a bigger target.  Aim at the same point on said bigger target for five shots.  See where it's hitting.  This will give you a starting point as to what the problem might be.  Also, is this off-hand or from a rest?

Shoot off of a rest at close range 10-15 yards.  Use a big target as stated earlier.  Shoot for groups.  Once you get a tight group then you will know what you have to do to the sites.  If it is shooting low then you may have to file the front site down.  Don't get discouraged.

Gentlemen,

My deepest apologies for not responding to the good information that you all provided in answer to my question.

I guess that from now on when I ask a question, I should log in more quickly, and more often. All that I can say in my own defense is that I got distracted.

Anyway, THANK YOU(!) to all for the good information that I will put to use at once. This web site, and the site members are a true resourse, and I have found that there is allot of knowledge here. I can not stress enough what an asset the Site, and the members are to the shooting community.

Again, my apologies for not responding before now.

Warmest regards,
