Outside of the Houge grip that comes on my GP-100, what other grips offered have you guys found that are effective as an alternative option

I still prefer the original with wood insets, both the look and the feel. But I have an irrational prejudice against finger grooves.
Ruger still sells them, but with a black wood instead of the old reddish color. $40, IIRC.

As do I.  I think the Ruger factory grips are the way to go.  I'm sure Uncle Mike's and Pachmyr have something that fits.  Most of my Smith's wear Uncle Mike's.  Was never a fan of Hogues.

Choices for Ruger GP's suck compared to Smith. SP's are slightly better, but not much.

I bought a used set of wooden Hogue's that I'm seriously considering trimming down with my scroll saw and belt sander.

Check out Badger, but you're gonna pay dearly for it.

FYI, anything made for the Super Redhawk will also fit the GP100.

Lots of good info here.  I just put down money on a 4in GP-100 and was thinking about changing out the grips.
