I just picked up a Charter Arms 5 Round Undercover 38 Special +P w/2" Barrel/Aluminum Finish for my wife at the local fun show here in Tampa today for 324.00 new. These are really nice weapons for the money. feels great to hold and trigger pull is not bad at all.  Any one here have one and if so how do you like it. I'm giving it to her for Christmas and have not shot it yet. I'm going to load some Hornady 110 HP/XTP for her to use in the weapon at the range. What would you suggest for defensive ammo for a 38 spl. I've never carried one. I have shot them when I was younger though a few times. I have autos but she want a wheel gun, because that's what she's comfortable with.

wife has the pink one. I hate it. Trigger is awful even after a good deburring. On the plus side it is light and works and cheaper than any J frame i could find locally.

Speer Gold Dot 135 Grain Short Barrel.  The bullet is specifically designed for snub barrel velocities.

My daughter in law got a new Charter Pink Lady this summer.  We had no problems with the gun functionally.  Grips are not cut for a speedloader if I remember correctly.  HKS 36 speedloaders will work.  I had no problems hitting my 6" dueling tree targets at 20m shooting DA only.  I would recommend the Federal 125gr Nyclads.  That's what I also carry in my 442.  CTC makes a laser grip for the CA guns also.  As far as durablity my 30 yr old CA Bulldog is still seening regular service.

I've noticed that the newer Charters don't have the joyful triggers of the old ones.  Still, I've yet to get hold of a bad Charter, and I've owned a bunch.  Got one in my coat pocket at this very moment (.44 pug)

Safariland used to make good speedloaders for them, though some of the fatter grips got in the way of smooth function.
