My model 29-3 has a problem. When I try and fire it in single action the trigger kicks itself foward and the hammer falls but very lightly, not hitting the primer hard enough to fire.

It fires fine in double action.

It doesnt do it I pull the trigger hard but if I try a "slow squeze" the trigger comes foward instead of back.

Any Ideas?  Thanks,   I also took the sideplate off and nothing appeared to be out of place or broken.

Your single action sear is chipped or badly worn, did you have an action job done on this gun in the past?

I just got it from my brother in law, he got it used in 1995 so I cant speak for before then.  But I know he has not done any mods since he has owned it. He hasnt shot it in 7 years.

Where can I pick a replacement part up at?   Thanks

If it was mine I'd probably send it back to S&W to have it fixed. While there they will go through it and make sure it is in good working order and probably won't charge you much to fix it either.

+2. Revolvers are not plug and play devices.

If you pried the side plate off instead of hitting the frame with a stick you probably messed it up a bit.

Something to check before you send the gun off to Smith. Remove the grips and check to make sure the strain screw that tensions the hammer spring has not backed out. If it is not tight, tighten it and see if that cures the problem.
