Picked one up today, LNIB. Not a deal, I was helping out a friend that recently lost his job.
Blue, nice. Anything specific to this model I need to be aware of? (hopefully I get to keep it when HH6 finds out) ETA; And let me add, I've never owned a single action revolver before. So any suggestions with manual of arms, grip, etc would be welcome. |

Love the Single Six! It takes a bit of learning to get used to a single action, but once you do, it's like riding a bicycle...
you may get rusty with technique, but it comes back quickly. Best advice I can give, besides shooting it a lot, is do not disassemble without cause! I'm not talking about pulling the pin & removing the cylinder––I mean gunsmith screwdrivers & DISASSEMBLY!. I did mine to give it a thorough cleaning (bought it used), but it didn't really need it...and will never, ever do that again, unless I've got to replace parts. Did you get the convertible (with the .22 Magnum cylinder)? What barrel? 4-5/8" & 5-1/2" balance best, but the 9-1/2" my FIL has shoots like a rifle! David |

Conventional wisdom is never to dry fire a rimfire. It can peen the edge of the chamber, & also hurt the firing pin. Having said that,
it does happen from time to time; I try not to do it much, and usually control the hammer with my thumb if I feel the need to pull the trigger unloaded. Best best is to put spent cases in the cylinder to cushion the firing pin. If you're not familiar with the manual of arms of a single action, you need to practice to get smooth & proficient with it. Snapping on empty cases is the next best thing to actually firing it. David |
