I found a video of one "melting" after 500 rounds so I started looking around and found a dozen or more accounts of this. But when I compared screen names/emails, they are apparently all from the same person posting different accounts of the same story. Has anyone else had this problem?

I looked into that as well and could only find this one story and video. Given that they appear to sell well and no one else has started a shitstorm about it I so far consider the one gun with serious flame cutting a rare exception, with an undetermined cause.

I've only heard of three distinct cases, though there could be more...it's hard to tell on the internet when people post on so many other boards under different names.  Of the three cases, one guy took his LCR back to the gun shop for a full refund, and the other two guys sent their LCRs back to Ruger, and Ruger sent them brand new LCRs upgraded with the CT laser grips.  Ruger will take care of its customers.  There doesn't appear to be a recall on the horizon, as it doesn't seem to be a common problem.  Some have put thousands of rounds through their LCRs with no trace of flame cutting.  If flame cutting, or melting, happens, it seems to occur before reaching the 500 round mark.  Because the problem shows up early, many believe it has to do with a bad batch, where something in either the metal itself or the gap between the cylinder and the forcing cone being out of spec.

Bottom line is that it doesn't appear to be a concern for 99% of the LCRs sold, and one could probably say a similar percentage applies to guns sold by any of the major manufacturers when taking into account every possible issue.  My wife has an S&W 317 .22lr with a couple hundred rounds thru it that only ignites an average of 5 out of the 8 rounds in the cylinder, no matter what brand of ammo, so we're having our gunsmith friend looking into the issue.  Is that an issue with all 317s?  I doubt it, and I have not heard of a recall for it.
