Alrighty im looking at one of these guys with the 38/357 and 9mm cylinders. My big question here is if needed could you shoot 9x18 and 9x17 out of the 9x19 cylinder? To me it would be kinda like shooting the shorter 38 out of a 357 cylinder. What says you guys?

Good question, I never really thought it about it much. Tag for the answer....

My guess is no on the 9X18 because it is .365  not .355 dia.

And if I am not mistaken, that cylinder is just like an auto and the cartridge indexes on the case mouth so I don't think a 9X17 (.380) or 9X21 would work either.

To get it to work you would need a revolver cut to use moon clips for 9mm.

i just didnt know how the auto rounds were held in. Theres no mention of moon clips so i was wondering if the round did just sit on a small lip in the cylinder...

Maybe I was not clear.

In the Ruger, 9mm will work just fine without moon clips because it will index on the case mouth.  .380 will drop in too deep to fire.

On a S&W, 9mm and .380 can be shot in the moon clips.

Not trying to hijack the thread here, but firing .380 in a 9mm revolver isn't something you should do.

I've done it in a S&W 940 I had about 16 years ago. The bullets safely exited the cylinder and barrel, but the casings were bulged quite a bit due to dimensional differences between the two cartridge casings. Also, the .380 cartridges barely stayed in the full-moon clip and I had to baby the loaded clip into the cylinder to make sure no rounds fell out or under the clip.

As has already been said, you can not shoot 9x18 in a gun chambered or bored for 9mm (.355) diameter cartridges. The diameter of 9x18 is .363.

I've only shot 9MM Luger 9X19 out of the 9MM cylinder, agree with others about the 9X18, etc. If you reload you can play with bullet dia a bit in the 9MM brass to get better accuracy.
