I have a Ruger Super Redhawk in .454 Casull on the way and need a good holster, it will be for backpacking.  Any suggestion would be appreciated.

Check out Simply Rugged Holsters...A nice pancake holster might be nice for backpacking...I have one for my Ruger GP100 and I can hardly tell when I am wearing the gun on my hip...It is almost non-existent when wearing the my Simply Rugged Sourdough Pancake holster...Plus, Rob seems to be a genuinely nice guy.

I like the Hunter brand holsters, I think its the 110 series.  They allow the gun to bounce around a bit on your belt so they can feel heavier than a nice high ride snug pancake holster.  However they are more flexible to use, especially when back packing.  Because the belt loop can be opened up wide you can slide it down over your backpack waist belt with no problem.... then around camp just wear it normally on your belt.

I think the recommendation for Simply Rugged is a good one.

I like their products as they are well executed, not overly fancy, and comfortable and functional.  Quick service, too, considering they are all the way up in that famous home town of Mrs. Palin in Alaska.

They are a top notch holster....  I just dont find that method of carry to work well with a waistband on my backpack.  YMMV

Well I ended up going with a Galco Kodiak Shoulder Holster, went hiking with it yesterday for the first time and it worked great with my pack.  Only scared a couple of sheeple on the trail
