Today on April 2nd I went to the range with my Ruger LCP. I purchased it on March 31st and the gun was test fired on March 19th in Prescott, AZ. 50 rounds of Remington UMC FMJ 50 rounds of Fiocchi FMJ No JHP tested since the only I had were in my carry gun Impressions -Gun shoots softer than the P3AT. -Accuracy not really relevant, but was able to hit a body silhouette at 25 yards in rapid succession. The gun shines at 15 feet. -Easier to shoot one handed than two handed due to small size. -The large extractor works great Problems The gun does not like to feed the last round in the magazine. This happened twice on the second to last round. This was with both ammo brands. Shooting "limp" wristed or firmly didn't affect the frequency. After cleaning and inspection I noticed some machining problems. -The feed ramp isn't completely smooth and quite uneven. -The machining on one side of the chamber is uneven. Looks like a dull bit was used. -The rear of the slide where the hammer passes up and down is uneven on the left side. -The center rib of the slide that re-cocks the single strike hammer is too wide. It looks like poor machining and it actually impacts the frame which is now dented from the 100 impacts he There are a few more problems like this and I am somewhat amazed. I called Ruger in Prescott, AZ today during office hours, but they didn't pick up so I left a message and return phone number. I will keep this thread updated. |

sounds like it needs to go back, you got a car buyers nitemare - a lemon. . My friend who has a lcp just wrote in another forum wher ehis lcp has 3900 rounds through it, no breakages, After he found out what ammo it likes and dislikes, it runs like a purring cat. He reports no issues, limpwristing is not there at all either. 3900 rounds with the lcp and no breakage is not heard of with the kt 380. Send yours back, let Ruger take care of it, from what you are reporting doesn't sound like more rounds will cure those ills. Ruger is running them out the front door aas fast as they can and you got a bad one.. |

Update I got off the phone with Ruger and they are shipping me a pre-paid mailer for the gun. They were very courteous and listened to all the flaws I noticed from machining/assembly. They also told me they recently had one other like mine from a magazine author and mine may have come from the same batch. I must say +1 for Ruger customer service |

Carl, As I said on the other forum, my sample did not have anywhere near the same number of problems & defects you describe. The only complaint I had on it was overly hard ejection, erratic ejection patterns, and torn case rims. Everything else was well done on it. It still functioned perfectly with ammo that it liked, which was within expectations starting out. But, as far as the frame peening goes, mine was not an isolated issue there, and others have mentioned hard ejection & case rim damage, too. If Ruger was implying that my sample was the only problem LCP, they were mistaken. It was Ruger, in fact, who identified the peening problem and advised me about it during talks about that hard ejection after I shot my first test sample. I had not broken the pistol down yet & did not know it was peening, nor had I returned it to them to check out. However they discovered that peening, it was not from looking at my sample, which leads me to conclude they found it in one or more of their own test samples. The fix they've incorporated in current production corrects the ejection issue, sounds like a replacement may be required to correct the other problems in your pistol. It happens with any maker. Ruger will take care of you. Good luck on yours. Denis |
| Just picked up m LCP last week. Only put 50 rounds through it because of time restraints. During the 50 rounds i had three failures. Two failures to feed where a tap with my palm on the back of the slide chambered the round and a light primer striker on one. Was using magtech fmj's. Is this something i should worry about. Iknow the gun isn't broken in yet but three failures in the first 50 rounds? |
Lube it up, the barrel and rails need lubrication. My bet is that the lite primer strike was you not letting up completley on the trigger allowing it to reset. If you don't let up completly on the trigger and let it completly reset, you are then firing it off the hammer block, and you will get lite strikes every time. 50 rounds is not sufficient time to say you have an issue and that slight bump of the slide to me indicates just more rounds and lube needed. Magtech is good ammo and should work, They are not that ammo sensitive. You could if you wanted to to polish the feed ramp to a mirror finish, this really enhances break in and makes feeding so much easier to. A fine 600+ paper or a dremel with a cotton swab and some polishing compound will shine it up big time... |
