Other than KTOG.org (where I read the rumor), has anyone here read/heard any chatter about Ruger introducing a small .380 pocket-gun sometime soon? I have read about Kahr's upcoming entry into that niche market, but this was the first I'd heard about a Ruger in that vein -- they've never made a truly compact semi-auto, have they? ![]() Probably just Internet rumor/misunderstanding...

I heard it on Ktog as well. If its true its not surprising. On the Ruger website they have a counter that is counting down to some mystery product. Most people are speculating a sub-compact SR9. Could be but not a really big deal honestly if they did. Most 9mm guns have a sub-compact counter part now. A small P3AT size Ruger in .380 would be a big deal as Ruger obviously wants to get in on the CCW market like every single other company is doing...hence the SR9. Unless its lightweight and as thin and short as the Kel-Tec, then I don't see anything for Kel-Tec to worry about. However if its the typical ruger construction in a P3AT size package than I will definatly think about a trade. Most people will probably moan something like "Well why a .380 when you can just make a 9mm." To them let me just say I would HATE to shoot a 9mm out of my P3AT, and I am one to think a Desert Eagle .50 is mild and a S&W .500 is a fun day at the range. |
I am actually hoping for either a compact SR9, or an SR40.......... I really like the SR9. |
www.ruger.com/LCP/ From the site: "Caliber: .380 Auto Catalog Number: LCP Capacity: 6+1 Barrel: 2.75'' Steel Weight: 9.40 oz. Why not? It worked pretty good for Smith and wesson with the Sigma. ![]() I am sure that Ruger has a contract with Kel Tec. I want to see the new Ruger and a P3AT together. |
| ruger has the new 380 LCP in their webb site. Looks exactly like the kt 380 but with slide lock and interanal lock and IMO willbe a gun that will work right out of the box. \\atch out kt, Ruger and Kahr are coming after your 380 market in a big way. My dealer priced me a Ruger 380 for $275, He has 20 on order and I am 10th on the list. I will wait. Was hoping Ruger would challenge kt's 380 market kand they have done it. It is a clone to the kt by all looks and interanal design but I sold Rugers for a living for over 40 years and THEY GO BANG EVERY TIME. a great move, now will have to sit back and wait for kahr intro into the 380 market also. It should be showingup on the webb sites very soon to.. |
| Ruger HAS NO CONTRACT WITH KT whatso ever. This is 100% made by Ruger. Just seems to me that kt did not protect their design rights with patents. Ruger IMO just copied the good stuff of the kt 380 and improved upon them. I just have no doubts that these rugers will work right out of the box without any fluff and buffing and other stuff that wa sneeded sometimes to get the kt's running right. I for one am very exc ited about Rugers entry into the sub compact world. This is their first try at it and so far it looks like a winner. The kt 380 were darn good designed handguns, but for me who owned 2 of them, I had just to many issues with mine to trust them. I might be over shooting my mouth here, but I just feel the Rugers LCVP will not be the issue handguns that my kt's were. at least I certainly hope not. Next thing if this goes over like it should and is well accpeted, willbe in my opinion a sub compace 9mm Ruger in the size and weight of the KT pf9,and with ruger quality behind it..Justmy opinion here.. |
they are very scarce to find anywhere. Normally selling from 255 to $330 but just so hard to find right now. Dealers have told me they never seen such a feeding frenzy over this lcp. Guess mostly becuase they work great and cosmeticaly they look super to. I ahve one with 700 flawless rounds through it, great gun IMO> |
$330 is MSRP. From what I understand - they should go for around 250-270 for FFL pricing. Locally, two shops had them at $330 and $339. I had my basement dealer FFL order me one from Davidson's- so I should get a decent price when it eventually arrives. Since money is a premium with me - I'm not paying an inflated price if I can help it. From all the reviews, fit and finish on the LCP seem to be greatly improved over the KelTec along with reliability. A lot of people like the grip better then the KelTec P3AT as well. |
| saw the ruger on the OUT DOOR CHANNEL. it was accurite, kind of compared it to the kel tec. lasermax is going to make a frontal laser for it in the future. any dealers have it the york co., sc area? i`m sure the show will be on again, it will be listed as a lasermax show rich |
Some of the reviews, maybe, but certainly not all of the reviews (WRT reliability). The LCP is going through the same "birthing pains" that the KTs went through at first -- lots of FTF/FTE experiences being reported with the early models. Ruger is a great company and I have no doubt these will be worked out, and probably relatively quickly. |
Except for the part where Glock won a lawsuit and S&W had to pay them a fee for every Sigma they sold! Right after the lawsuit, S&W did not advertise their Sigma much and soon made a new plastic pistol design. |
no infringements with the lcp and the kt. seems kt didn't protect their design at all. It was there for all to take and Ruger did just that. they may look the same but they sure aren't the same IMO. Owned kt's, had to many issues with them, lcp have some teething pains but NOTHING like the kt' s have had and seem to still have. My lcp has 1000 flawless rounds out of it, shoots straight and shows zero signs of any wear anywhere. The grip material and design is 100% nicer than the kt 1 X 3 feel... |
