my wife has a p345,when you slap a mag in. it chambers a round without
hitting the slide release.

is this normal for this piece or should i have it looked at?

Many handguns do this. Some say it is normal and some say it is not supposed to happen. My Glocks do it and some of my Sigs and XD do it. I have to really hit the mag hard and in the right spot....how hard do you hit yours? Call Ruger just to be sure.

so it sounds like it needs a womans touch then!
i gave it a bit of a shove i guess,it doesnt do it
if im more gentle with it.
may still have it looked at.
because when it does it ,bullet doesnt chamber correctly.
can anyone recommend one that isnt as prone to this?
bought it for home defence, but if it does this in an
emergency we may not be able to talk about it later.

thanks for any and all replies.

It is not part of the normal function of the pistol, have it looked at.

at least from a visual inspection.

You guys ever do a "combat reload"?

This is common on autoloading pistols.

This is what I was taught in the Police Academy.
This is what I was taught at Glock Armorer school.
This is something that EVERY centerfire pistol I have owned in over 15 years of handgunning, including:

Ruger P89 and KP89
Glock 17, 19, 23, 27
1911's of various manufacture (.45ACP and .38 Super)
S&W 909 and 915
Browning P35

No although I carried a 1911 in Vietnam.

Carried only as I was not in any ground combat except as a target. I was in a non-combat unit (USMC Air Delivery platoon) as an Air Deliveryman(parachute rigger).

Ok, so then the slide can release on a firm "combat reload" but it won't on a "garrison reload"???

Pretty much.
When I first arrived in "Nam we had M-14s but since we flew on KC-130Fs quite a bit, we traded them for 1911A1s. That made it easier to deal with a weapon on an aircraft and, of course, having a 1911 on your hip made you 'tacticool" in 1968.
