I had been putting this off for over a year but I bought her a beautiful case hardened "old" Vaquero for her birthday today and it had a much lighter hammer which prompted her to start asking for the same thing on her New Vaquero Bisley that is much harder to pull than her new "old Vaquero".
I need to buy a spring kit to lighten up the hammer strength on my bff's New Vaquero Bisley. She has some nerve damage in her right hand that makes cocking the gun with her thumb all but impossible and while she can use her other hand but she would like to do it normally. I'm going to get a spring kit from Wolff but I don't know which weight of spring to buy that will have as light a hammer pull as possible but not so light that primer strikes are a problem. Can someone who's already done this recommend a spring weight that will do what I described? After feeling how good her new "old" Vaquero operates I want my New Vaquero to work that well to. Any information would be greatly appreciated |
| If you get a spring pack, for about $10 or so, most come with 3 mainsprings and a couple of return springs. Start with the lightest and run a bunch of ammo through it. If it fails to fire even one time, move up to the next weight and retest. Shooting will slick it up over time. There is always the poor cowboy's action job, a tube of Crest Original Paste and few hours of dryfiring. |
