Went to my first 3 gun shoot last night (very interesting doing 3 gun in the dark)
dang sr40c gave me 2 trigger reset failures. I was shooting with a light in one hand and my wrist crossed over that hand to shoot. The guy running the timer suggested i may be limp wristing it. I tightened up my grip some and didn't get any more. I have read this issue in a couple of other threads i saw at least 1 where installing the ghost trigger bar fixed it. others ruger replaced the factory trigger bar. Doesn't seem as though a soft wrist would really cause this as the slide still travels far enough to eject the spent case which is further than needed to reset the trigger. I am sure ruger would take care of it but I enjoy fixing and working on guns my self and i was already intending to install the smooth it kit from galloway with ghost trigger bar. Can anyone pinpoint the cause of the trigger reset failure? also I hate the mag safety need to remove it ran out of mags at the end of the pistol course and was trying to single load some to hit the stop plate and couldn't figure out why the pistol wouldn't fire until after i just gave up on the last target. |

i went ahead and did the full dcoa on my slide at least and set the magazine disconnect aside for now (may put it back in later for sd hd legal purposes but will leave it out for now) the striker and striker channel did still have a good amount of cosmoline and a bit of powder fouling. Didn't seem like quite enough gunk to cause a malfunction but feels smoother now. I watched the video on galloway before it helps but seems as though it cuts off early and there should be a part 2. that video does go as far as they would disassemble it but seems to cut off like they did the reassembly but it didn't fully post? I also referenced the videos on rugers site. I'll update again once i can get to the range. hopefully just the dcoa on the slide will do the trick but i still intend to get the smooth it kit. |
