| I'll try to explain this issue. Last week I went to pick up a 22/45 I had ordered. I was at the counter looking at the pistol while the owner waited on another customer. While I was playing with it I noticed that when I was releasing the bolt stop to let the bolt go forward the magazine was popping out of the pistol. The only way to stop it from happening was to really press the magazine in. It didn't seem like it was fitting in right, like the front of the base pad section was too big. I didn't take the pistol and the owner sent the gun back to Ruger. A few days later he gets another one in and it does the same thing. He calls Ruger and the woman on the phone told him that they know about the issue. The gun was made that way. To seat the magazine you insert it all the way in and the push the base forward. That didn't sound right to him so he asked to speak to someone else. They took his number and he's still waiting for a call back. I was at his shop yesterday and he explained this all to me. I then tried it myself with the pistol he had there and it did work. Once the mag was in you have to push it forward. You can feel and hear it click in. I had owned a 22/45 a few years ago and never experienced this with that pistol. Has anyone experienced this issue? I want the gun and this doesn't seem like a big deal but Ruger's explanation sounds like a half assed answer to the issue. If I pay for something it should work right and I shouldn't have to perform special tricks to get it to run. |
| When I bought mine, I had them pull out the two they had so that I could check the trigger. I noticed the mag "issue" on one as it popped out everytime when dropping the bolt. The salesmen was aware of the issue and pointed out that you needed to push the bottom of the mag forward. However, on the 22/45 that I ended up buying didn't have a problem at all. In any event, I love the pistol and it sounds awesome with my Element. After shooting both subsonic and standard ammo, I decided that I am just going to stick with standard ammo as I really can't hear any difference. |

Heard from ruger today and they said it's because of the magazine disconnect. It should work in over time. I bought their explanation and took the gun home tonight. Anybody running subsonic ammo with a suppressor? I bought some remington subsonic to try out. Remington anything in a semi-auto is hit and miss, at best. About any other sub-sonic should work just fine. Mine runs Federal & Winchester just fine. |

Anybody running subsonic ammo with a suppressor? I bought some remington subsonic to try out. That is the reason actually. A simple modification and the mags will shoot right out and insert easier. Go over to rimfirecentral.com and do a little research. Granted it should work fine out of the box, but you have to understand that needing to futz around with the mag to seat properly in order for the disconnect to disengage is "working properly" to the lawyered-up Ruger that designed the MkIII 22/45 initially. They are getting better, but that mag disco is a legacy of the 90's gun safety panic. Same with the LCI that is an easy delete. As far as running subsonic? I shot stnd velocity CCI with a friend's YHM mite on it. It ran fine. I have an AAC element on the way and have been picking up batches of various ammo. Remington subsonic was next, but remington is at the bottom of my list right now for any ammo. |
